Hi
I had this when I was pregnant. I found that I could eat cereal for breakfast, and my glucose levels were ok. I would have salad and crackers/ bread for lunch, and for dinner it would be fish and rice, or plain jacket potatoes. I would snack on fruit. It's normally a case of trying things, and checking how much this affects your levels. I think everyone is different. I would say try to eat well, and just keep an eye on things. You mw should have suggestions too. Smile

Try not to worry too much.

Hi. I'm about 2 1/2 weeks into my diagnosis - I am 32 +3. I've only really had to change breakfast - can't tolerate cereal or porridge so am now on 2 scrambled eggs and a slice of seedy bread toast. I am so far managing to avoid medication. Rest of the day I haven't changed too much. I have a sandwich for lunch with protein and salad in (seedy bread again works for me). Follow it up with strawbs and raspberries with some Greek yoghurt (normal or diet yogurts send me a bit high). Dinner is pretty normal for me - pasta, stir fry, chicken/fish and potatoes and veg. Fish cake, chips and beans was fine too. Tonight I've had homemade pizza with salad and a Becks Blue and come in under target which I'm pleased about. Avoid processed stuff. I'm only drinking water apart from a glass of milk before bed with a snack. Other snacks tend to be apples, cheese, oatcakes in between meals. Have you seen the dietician yet? They'll give lots of advice but you have to try stuff and see what works for you - porridge is advised but it was a no for me. I thought I'd have the most trouble with breakfast as funny turns mid morning were the only reason I was sent for a test. I had no other risk factors. My first growth scan showed bean is within normal lines and the consultant said they wouldn't necessarily induce at 38 if growth wasn't too big and all other obs were good. Feel free to pm me any other questions.

I diet controlled. I found eggs were fine, porridge sent sugars to 7-8 ish, any more than 1 slice of soya/linseed or low carb brown bread sent too high. For evening meals I had large portions of red meat, chicken, salmon, etc with lots of extra veg and one or two new potatoes and levels would be absolutely fine. I snacked little and often on cheese, hummus, small amounts of whole meal pitta, nuts, hard boiled eggs, avocado, or a little fruit (but sweet fruit like grapes sent sugars up. ) I only drank water and tea. I found breakfast the hardest meal as I love cereal. I only had to do it for 10 days and got little guidance so was trial and error and probably cut back on carbs too much. I had a very carb high diet before and am already skinny and I think lost some weight at the end which was probably not great.

I found out on Friday and met with my nurse yesterday. Was not as bad as I was expecting. I need to start eating breakfast and today had 2x seeded toast with marmite. (told to avoid white) and my levels were good (6.6 1hr after) I also need to eat more - in the day snack wise and I should be fine. It all appears to be going ok.

:)
