ivf - will my frozen egg transfer ever happen??

Great news that we have 11 eggs frozen.

Timing wise (lab closure at Crimbo) my consultant says that as I will need 4 weeks of medication before hand and still have to wait for 2 more cycles she will book me in for the transfer in the NY. This now leaves me with an approx 5mth wait.

Does anyone know if paying private for the transfer will speed things up?

Totally to throw in the towel now. Next year will take me up to 3yrs of processes and putting life on hold. I have one friend who has just given birth and another due within weeks. It's so hard.

I can't help you, but thought I'd direct you to this site where loads of people will know the answer: www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=8.0

Good luck!

I had private ivf and frozen transfer (not entitled to nhs as already have a child) and yes much quicker but super expensive.

Mmm, might be worth exploring. Obviously depends hugely on the clinic and your diagnosis. But at our clinic our fresh cycle cost us about £5000 total in the end while the basic cost for a frozen cycle is supposedly £1000. Especially if you had to have a lot of the stimulating drugs- that stuff is seriously expensive and you don't need it at all for a frozen cycle I don't think. I was injecting about £100 worth a day for two weeks :-S you can even do 'natural cycles' where they pretty much just plonk them in and hope for the best. Depends on your financial situation but might be worth paying a few hundred quid for a consultation at a private clinic?

Try not to get disheartened- 11 frozen embryos is effing amazing - the odds are hugely in your favour now that you will get there!

PS think all clinics will close over Christmas - so your only hope may be a different approach to medication leading up to the transfer. Also some clinics may insist on having various tests redone in their own labs so may not be quite so quick as it could be if you had had the fresh cycle with them.

Why the 2 cycle wait?
I had to wait over xmas last yr, from consultation jul. Really annoying and im still trying now a yr later.

You have a good chance with so many. We havent had 1 frozen in 2 cycles

Happilymarried155 · 24/09/2014 07:34

I was going to ask the same thing why do you need to wait two cycles? Is there any reason for this. If not I would push for it to start sooner, discuss with them your emotional wellbeing and how all this waiting is troubling you x

vallinnapod · 24/09/2014 19:37

It really does depend. Yes, you do have more flexibility with a private clinic but if you moved now you would probably have to wait a couple of weeks for a consultant appointment. They may then want to monitor your cycle, or in my case I have to on the pill for a cycle to induce a bleed (no periods). In theory you could do a natural FET (pigging backing off your own cycle - therefore no drugs and much cheaper!) or start medication and then the transfer would happen two-ish weeks after that. Which probably puts you smack bang on Christmas so they may want to wait too.

It is cheaper than full IVF (£1200 and my clinic) but if you have a medicated cycle it stacks up - I was on a huge number of drugs as my lining is pretty none responsive!

11 Frozen embryos is amazing! Smile

I'm currently pregnant with a snow baby after a successful FET in May. We have 18 months of stopping and starting sith a gallbladder removal in between, so I can totally sympathise with the horrendous waiting Flowers

What protocol are you doing moving towards transfer? Is there a reason for the wait between freeze and transfer? I was due to have our first transfer in December 2013 and ended up waiting until February. Our clinic didn't do any transfer running up to Christmas, not just because of closures (they only closed christmas day) but mostly as ethically they decided they didn't want people to have to cope with negative cycles at that time of year (counsellor told me this).

Depending on what the fertility issue is it is possible to do a natural FET (as I did) which involved no drugs what so ever, just use your normal cycle and pop frostie in 2,3,5 etc... Days after ovulation. The cost is also a lot less. Benefit being there is no recovery time so we literally went from AF arriving on our first failed cycle to monitoring for the next cycle starting immediately.

Does your clinic also take private patients? I know ours charge a small fee for transport of embryos if you move to another clinic.

babykonitsway · 25/09/2014 11:44

yep, waiting is PANTS!

If you can afford it go private. My NHS clinic (where I have 4 snow babies from my last NHS ivf) will do a FET privately for a grand I think, think the queue otherwise is 6 months at least. You have a large number of embryos so I would say get to it! The younger you are the better. Good luck!

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Not going to bother with asking about paying to fast track I don't think, as my husband wants me to have a breather and to be honest with the wait for NY I have decided to carry on with normality and not think IVF.

We are with Manchester Hosp, St Mary's. After each attempt and/or big retrival like me they will not let you call up for treatment until you have had x3 cycles. I find the the 3 cycle wait very strange too as through research this is not a common practice. They say it's let your body recover, but I am ready to go again now, it is the Hosp sending me crazy in the head ??!!

This sort of happened to me last year, we went to see the consultant about private FET in the August but by the time the ball was rolling I was looking at having embryo transfer just before Christmas and they didn't want to risk it. I was sobbing in the nurse's room when they said no! I had always down-regged well but they couldn't take the risk that I might need an extra week. So instead I ended up down-regging for a longer period and having the transfer done very early in January.

I was upset about the wait as it meant a longer age gap between children and (which was tougher emotionally) over a year since I'd had a miscarriage.

However it worked and the result is due tomorrow :)
