Just looking for some advice and/or reassurance. I am currently 6+4 and starting to show- dh and a colleague have noticed. I am usually a size 10 and have a flat stomach. I know this can be fairly common in second and subsequent pregnancies, but I cannot find any positive information about showing this early in first pregnancies. Everything I read mentions cysts, tumours and molar pregnancies. This isn't just bloating, I look pregnant. I'm not sure if I should be ringing the gp (not even had my booking-in appt yet) or if I'm worrying over nothing.

I am highly aware that I am fully embracing the first time parent paranoia that I was determined to eschew, but I would very much appreciate some advice on this one.

Many thanks.

ShowOfHands, I'm a fairly slim build and I couldn't even do my (admittedly fairly tailored) work trousers up at around 8 weeks with my first pregnancy. Didn't help things that I was wearing pin-striped trousers at the time so even though I was doing my trousers up using a rubber band between the button hole and button (stylish ) the stripes at the front were getting more diagonal in angle every day! Needless to say that I had to wear my jacket all the time but it had to hang open as that wasn't doing up either! The bump then stopped growing until I was around 4.5 months pregnant - think it must have been the baby growing into that nice big space! Have to admit that it didn't occur to me that it could be something sinister. Think we all just develop so differently that no two pregancies are the same. If you are at all worried though then go and see your doctor as they'll never treat you as a time waster when you are pregnant and concerned about something.

Hi everyone!. I'm 30 weeks and I started showing literally the minute i found out i was pregnant at 5 weeks! My tummy just went whoosh and everyone knew I was pregnant just by looking at me by about 8 weeks! Its REALLY annoying when people comment on how big I am and how theres NO WAY I'l last til my due date , but just ignore them, EVERYONE is different and as long as you and the midwife are happy with how your pregnancy is progressing, then you've nothing to worry about!!! xxx

I was showing really early on too. I found I couldn't hold my stomach muscles in no matter how hard I tried and I think this made me look bigger! good luck with the pregnancy!

I'm 17 weeks on second pregnancy and still in normal clothes, I don't look the least bit pregnant. It was the same with DD - I didn't start to look pregnant until about 7 months in and had a very neat bump - looks like this one will be similar!

Another one bucking the trend. I am/was a size 6/8 and with no1 didn't have a bump until around 20 weeks. Although I do remember at around 14 weeks being very frustrated as to why I couldn't pull my jeans up past mid-thigh.

We all put on weight in different areas For me it was my first experience of thunder thigh...and bum

Mercy · 26/09/2006 20:12

thunder thighs, I had more than one!

btw - congratulations! Hope all goes well

I too showed early. as did my mum. I carried very high, however I didn't need pregnancy clothes until about 20 weeks, and now pretty much only have a bump. Don't be too worried, it will all even out, but your probably fixated on it at teh moment.

Monkeychopsmummy · 26/09/2006 21:15

I had a pot belly from early on. I was a size 10 with flat stomach (oh how I miss that!). But although to me and DH it looked like pregnant belly I think it was just bloating . I was in maternity jeans before 12 weeks. On the upside I didn't get morning sickness and I was all bump later on. See your midwife if you are worried - I think it is crazy that we don't normally get to see them until 12 weeks - the first trimester is an important time and I had loads of worries and questions!

Wouldnt worry about it, my pregnancys showing and Im not even pregnant.

My Sil and I were pregnant at the same time, and I was about 4 months ahead of her. I am about 6' tall and she is 5'. When I was 7 months and she was 3 our bellies were the same size. She was two months and wearing her maternity clothes.
