Can anyone reccomend good quality muslin cloths that aren't too expensive. I'm having triplets so I will need a lot!

I've seen some in asda but they look quite thin and stretchy...

Is the Aldi event a "get there early or miss it" type of thing?

kiwiscantfly · 17/09/2014 21:09

I had ten muslins Max and never really needed them, neither of my girls were sicky, so mine sit in the laundry cupboard unused. A friend however had to use terry nappies as muslins didn't cut it.

kiwiscantfly · 17/09/2014 21:10

Phew good thing I spell checked that last post, I just about had ten Muslims, Blush

John Lewis. Eldest is now 10 and they are still going strong for all manner of jobs around the house!

Sainsbury one's are good. We have some from there and some marks Spencer ones and then some xtra large ones from marks Spencer for swaddle n then Sun shading. Aldi do both small n large ones and are good from my experience as a maternity night nanny and they have a baby event starting today so should have some in

bellaboo88 · 18/09/2014 08:28

I've bought a few metres of muslin fabric, cut up into diff sizes & just double fold edges & sew.

I'm a sewing geek tho, next project is cot chew guard x

Some good recommendations, thanks. I think I might pick up a few from different places and try them.

I found ds's old thin fleece blanket from asda which will be excellent for swaddling, had a few practices with it so far so good!

Just been to Aldi and picked up a couple of packs of their muslins. Seem quite thin butthey are much bigger than the omes from other supermarkerlts.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 18/09/2014 12:31

Think I've been hacked - I know my answer is a bit late but for future, aldis baby event usually has plenty of all the cheap stuff for a few days but if you want anything big like a highchair or pushchair you need to be there first thing.

201418 · 18/09/2014 17:34

I agree with pp aldi's stuff goes quick. I need to get to aldi soon I will miss out!

They had tons in the one I was at today. Wishing I hadnt been so organised as i didnt really need much but was able to get sudocreme and calpol. They also had boxes of six tomee.tippee bottles for a tenner. Loads of other stuff too - not baby related but giant card paint your own playhouses (a zoo.one and a fairy castle one) for seven quid each.

201418 · 18/09/2014 17:49

That's good, I love aldi for things like that nice colouring books, slippers jigsaws etc

I brought loads from asda and they came out really scratchy :(
primark ones have come out lovely and are decent sized, and I've also got some from H&m which have washed soft. My dd isn't due until Sunday though so they have only had one wash. If the primark ones stay as they are they are my winner x

pickletalk14 · 18/09/2014 18:18

I liked the mothercare rainbow coloured ones so you knew which one you'd used to mop up the latest puke incident!
Summer Infant do large ones which are slightly more reasonable than a&a.
I found the ikea ones a bit 'stiff' even after lots of washes and they're bigger but not big enough to be swaddles/sunshades.

moanymandy · 18/09/2014 18:40

My ds is 11 months and loves his muslin cloths! The best ones by far are from aldi. The are really soft and wash up really nicely.

I have also got some from ikea, sainsburys and Asda but aldi are def the best!

ColdTeaAgain · 18/09/2014 19:32

Another vote for John lewis, not the cheapest but the price isnt too bad for the quality compared to others. We had a very refluxy baby and they were worth their weight in gold. Cheap thin ones would of been a bit useless!

fertilityFTW · 18/09/2014 19:36

John Lewis! Super soft compared to the others (haven't tried ikea) - I wanted something that wasn't scratchy as DD slept with them under her head and often turned to sleep on her side. I wanted it soft on her cheek.

And Aden & Anais! Yum!

joaninha103 · 19/09/2014 14:34

Asda, pack of 3 for £3.50. thicker than most other budget ones. wash and dry well and are soft. sometimes when they have a baby event you get 4 for price of 3. Also Aldi's jumbo ones, 3 for £8.99 (?) lovely and soft, really good quality and big enough to swaddle baby in. You can never have too many muslins, as pp said, use to mop up sick, on change mat to soak up leaks, to dry in little creases of skin after bath, to line pram/car seat/crib/etc in case of sick/nappy leaks/whatever. I have 20 or so asda ones and 3 aldi large ones, all been used and ds is only 2 weeks old!

GailLondon · 19/09/2014 15:02

I personally don't think muslins are great - not very absorbent. What I used were little towels from IKEA, only 20p each! And so much softer and more practical than a muslin. Just what you need if you have a little boy like mine who loves weeing as soon as you take his nappy off to change him!

I got ds's from mothercare. He was another who was constantly sick so they were washed loads (and often on a hot wash). Many are still being used as tea towels.(and stilk being boil washed).
Ds is 16 so I think the quality speaks for itself!!

AuditAngel · 19/09/2014 18:52

Most of mine were Mothercarw, but I had some boots and M&S ones too. After 10 years and 3DC mine have now been transferred to tea towels (I was about to buy new tea towels and being frugal decided to save my money)

RachieS1986 · 21/09/2014 10:33

When ds was born (hes 2 now) we got a pack from mothercare. They were a great size bigger than any of the others we had seen. Think there was 10 or more in the pack but they were more expensive. They washed well and im planning on using them again when dc2 arrives in january
