Weekend away at 35 weeks?

I've been invited to a weekend away next year, I would really love to go but I'll be 35 weeks pregnant at that point.

The accommodation is about an hour and a half on the train from where I live. I've just checked on google maps and it's half an hour drive to the nearest city.

It will be in the countryside so nice walks, but if I'm not up for walking I suppose it would be nice just to laze around and relax.

Am I being overly optimistic or is it do-able? Will I appreciate my last childless break, or will I just be wishing I was lying on the couch at home?

Yes, very doable! Go for it!

Its do-able! Just make sure there's a loo on the train - it might be worth booking yourself in 1st class so you're a bit comfier.

If you like the other people and the place you'd be going to then do it :)

You won't be up for long walks at that point (well I wouldn't have been!), but lazing around in a nice house/B&B/hotel and havering meals with nice people will be a good break :)

Make sure you take your notes with you, and the details of the nearest hospital and some local taxi numbers. You wit need them, but take them just in case :)

I drove four hours each way at over 37 weeks to see my mum and dad - no problem at all. I was tired and had to take the drive carefully with lots of breaks but it was no drama. Better that than be bored to tears by 40 weeks because you've just stayed home

I did two "last holidays" at 36 weeks in first pregnancy - one on the train for a couple of nights to see a friend (2 hours from home) and one with DP, driving, again only a couple of hours away.

I managed hour-long walks fine, interspersed with rest, spas and food!

I didn't take anything special, just my notes.

Be aware that you might have actually had the baby by then. It might be early!

I went to a wedding a long car drive away when I was about the same stage as you'll be. It took us ages because a) I needed to stop at every garage for a wee and b) wouldn't let DH drive to fast because I felt sick most of the way.

weebairn · 17/09/2014 10:24

I think it's good to plan stuff right up to the end (and beyond) though. Otherwise you sit there twiddling your thumbs from 36 weeks and throw a massive strop at 40 weeks Grin

Just be aware you might cancel, but you probably won't, most people go late!

rallytog1 · 17/09/2014 12:24

Yep, go for it! You're near enough to home that if anything happens, you can get back relatively quickly. Make the most of every opportunity for some 'me' time while you can!

mamalovebird · 17/09/2014 12:30

Agree with other poster. Do-able. I had a weekend away in Brighton (live in Manchester) at 35 weeks. Had to stop a couple of extra times to walk around a bit, but that was all. and I took my notes, just in case. Enjoy it.

Totally do able as it's a short easy journey and you can spend the whole time relaxing when you're there. It's not like you're going mountaineering, or on a 12 hour flight. I'd go, and I say that as someone who gave birth at 35 weeks!

ohthegoats · 17/09/2014 17:05

I went away last weekend at 38 weeks. No worries!

gargalesis · 17/09/2014 18:30

Brilliant, thanks for all your replies everyone. I'm feeling very encouraged! I think I'm going to go for it. I can see myself going a bit stir crazy stuck at home in the last few weeks so some fresh air and a change of scenery will really do me good I think.

Definitely go. I did a (slow) 7 mile walk at 37 weeks so you might suprise yourself

TheFroglet · 17/09/2014 20:22

Do it! I went away in a grotty caravan for a week at 36wks with our toddler and 2 dogs was not looking forward to it at all but I had the nicest time, so lovely to relax and be not have to deal with normal things like hoovering! Came home relaxed and ready for the madness to start! Go for it you wont regret it x

WftsC · 17/09/2014 21:36

Do it! Just back from a weekend away at 35 weeks and it didn't even occur to me not to! Never crossed my mind. It was lovely.

Got a bit uncomfortable on the drive back (2 and a bit hours) but not enough for it to have put me off.

Enjoy!

I spent the last bank holiday weekend at Carfest were supposed to camp but hotelled it instead. I was 36 weeks.

Just took notes and didn't push myself to much.

Go and enjoy.
