Morning Sickness blues...

Tylastar · 15/09/2014 23:17

I've just hit 9 weeks and my morning sickness has gotten far worse.

I've been constantly nauseous for about 3 weeks and now it's gotten worse.
Friends and doctors are trying to reassure me that this means a healthy pregnancy but I'm feeling so rubbish.

I'm finding it very difficult to go about everyday things.

Anyone got any remedies? Give me your best voodoo tricks!!

The best way to describe my first trimester was feeling permanently hungover, just none of the fun of getting drunk first! I found that constantly grazing through the day took my nausea away. I had a stash of sweets, nuts, mints in my drawer at work and would have something once an hour or so. If I went longer than an hour id feel sick again. Completely went off fruit and tea, even the smell made me feel sick. I had to eat whatever made me feel better and abandon my normal healthy diet until the second trimester. I also drank gallons of water as that seemed to help and ate lots of carbs, crisps, chips, toast all helped. Make sure you eat something as soon as you wake up, I had a pack of ginger biscuits in my bedside table & having one before I got out if bed made a huge difference, even the 10 minute wait before I had breakfast was too long. The nausea magically disappeared one night, I woke up feeling fine and started eating normally again from about 11 weeks. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Tylastar just read your thread and I am now 10 weeks and have felt terrible for 3 weeks now. I can't do daily things my nausea is so bad I need to lay down constantly (not good with a 2 year old) if I drink I feel sick and if I eat I feel ok then 10 minutes later the sickness feeling is there again. I had morning sickness with my other 3 but definitely not this bad. I just want my normal self to return soon pleaseSmileSad

Mumto3soon2b4 · 16/09/2014 08:53

I tried ginger capsule and the snacking and for me nothing has worked. Hope you find something that works for you and it subsides soon

Roseylee20 · 16/09/2014 10:13

Hi everyone, wow it's nice to know were all in the same boat, but I'm with everyone else, I have found nothing yet! Sad I am 9 weeks today, found out I was pg when I was 5 weeks by going to the gp thinking I had a kidney infection I felt that bad. I described my symptoms as glandular fever as I have had that a few years back. Since then I have had the odd good day, for example yesterday I managed to clean, Hoover and wash up. I felt like I deserved a medal! My nausea doesn't go away and it's a real struggle at work (one of my p/t jobs is working as a cleaner) but I try to sit down as much as possible. I carry a drink everywhere I go whether it's Lucozade, juice or
Flavoured water. I feel like I'm gasping if I know I haven't got a drink to hand! The only thing I have found out that is if I have a medium/large meal, that's when I suddenly feel massively tired, sick and bloated. I'm sorry I've only moaned and have nothing to offer, I think we'll just have to try and get through it until the 2nd trimester! The only things I can manage to eat (slowly, and in small portions) is white bread toast, fries from mcdonalds, cheese, potato waffles, occasionally crisps. I wish everyone the best and hope we all feel better soon Thanks

Tylastar · 16/09/2014 13:19

I'm sorry everyone is feeling rubbish but nice to know I'm not alone.
At one point last week the only thing I could manage to eat was crisps, last night I ate a bowl of potatoes with some bread (took me an hour to eat) and I felt okay for a few hours after so I think I'm going to stick with carbs!

I'm going to try original Ritz crackers as they have been recommended by a friend! If it turns out to be a miracle I'll let you know!

I'm about 11 weeks now and (fingers crossed) not feeling like utter shite all day, every day anymore, as I did for about a month. It sounds trite and won't help, but it does usually pass, no matter how little you believe people who say that. I could cheerfully have throttled or thrown up on everyone who told me that, but they were right.

I hate non-science-y things but tried every suggestion offered - I ate/drank tonnes of gingery stuff, regular snacking, eating before getting up, savoury food, lots of carbs - basically whatever, sometimes contradictory, things I was told or read. The only thing that seemed to help me was wearing travel sickness wristbands day and night. They weren't a cure-all, but seemed to help - I noticed one time when I was feeling particularly sick that I'd forgotten to put them back on after a shower. May be psychosomatic, but worth a try... if only so you can say you have tried everything, goddamit!

I also spent a good bit of time lying in bed/on the sofa whinging to DH about how shite I felt and how it was all his fault. This only helped with my mood, not the nausea, but still Wink

tiredvommachine · 16/09/2014 13:51

I feel your pain, I was very nauseous and vomited loads from about week 7 and have been feeling better for probably the last three weeks (am now 19 weeks). The only thing that got me through was carbs, milk, plain crisps and sleep. Even now, if I get overtired, the retching comes back with a vengeance. You will get through it, but I can remember from my last pregnancy and obviously this one how debilitating MS is. Keep your chin up X

Worzel77 · 16/09/2014 14:13

I feel exactly the same so know how you are feeling. I'm 10 weeks now and have been pretty much bed ridden with MS since about 6 weeks. I was the same with my last pregnancy and started feeling much better at 14 weeks so am just counting down the days this time.

Things that help me slightly are glasses of fizzy water or milk with ice cubes, fizzy cola bottles and staying out of the kitchen as much as possible!

Mumto3soon2b4 · 16/09/2014 19:32

It's nice to know there is many of us although not nice for us, once again lying down feeling dizzy and sick. Only an hour after eating. Hope you ladies all feel better soon too and I'm glad this is baby number 4 and my last as I've felt so illFlowersSmile

Clarabell33 · 17/09/2014 15:20

I remembered something else - ice lollies. MW suggested sucking icecubes but I have sensitive teeth so couldn't do that for long, but sucking ice lollies (especially tart lemon ones) helped me occasionally - but only for as long as the ice lolly lasted Sad

Roseylee20 · 18/09/2014 08:54

Clarabell33 I have to agree with you- when I have a certain food that makes me feel ok (trying to think of one) - my nausea comes back as soon as I've eaten it! Confused a bit of an obvious one most likely, but I've just found out that 'greasy' food does not sit well with me at all. I'm also not eating as much as I did before I got pregnant! Is anyone else the same? Don't get me wrong I'm
Still eating, but little and often- and very slowly! No big dinners etc

Squidge14 · 18/09/2014 10:40

Hi ladies, just thought I'd add my whinge experience too! I am 9+2 and since the beginning of this week my MS has really kicked up a notch I've been physically sick a few times and much stronger feelings of nausea, whereas before I would only feel really sick but not as bad as I do now!

I haven't found a cure I'm afraid but found it gets worse for me if I get hungry so snacking and eating regularly does help, a few people have mentioned eating something before you get out of bed so I might try that, although the thought of ginger biscuits when I'm feeling nauseous only speeds up the inevitable vomiting Grin hope you all feel better soon, and if anyone does find a cure please share!!

Roseylee20 · 19/09/2014 08:19

Hey Squidge, I am 9+3 today, too! I feel like mine has got slowly worse this week too. Still not eating big dinners, snacking through the day, but feel as though I need to be sick in the morning before I eat, and again in the evening before dinner Confused I really would love to find a miracle food/drink to make us all better! I was even given some Indian ginger tea in sachets which is like a powder made up of ginger, tea extract and milk extract but no- it didn't do anything at all!

Funkyfairy2004 · 24/09/2014 22:37

I agree about ice lollys, r whites lemonade ones have been my saviour! I also ate tons of mini cheddars. Good luck x

daholster · 24/09/2014 22:45

I'm another one for the ice lollies! Not many calories but did stop the wanting to retch feeling and it did seem to calm my stomach for about an hour. I have days of feeling bad and days of ravenous and fine now, at 10+5 (though currently on the sofa clutching my fizzy water... was ok this morning!)

FreckleBee · 25/09/2014 12:59

I just posted a long moan about my nausea before finding this thread! It sounds like my experience is really similar and whilst I'm so sorry to hear others are suffering it is reassuring to hear it is normal and I'm not the only one.
Has anyone tried pregnacare vitamins? I took one last night and have vomited 4 times since this, so I'm convinced they don't agree with me. Or it could be coincidence. I'm surviving on ice lollies too, tesco do a really nice rocket lolly which has been my saviour.
I'm really struggling to keep anything down and feeling so nausea of most of the day. My friend recommendeded flat coke, she swore by it during her first trimester, obviously in moderation due to the caffeine. I've used this occasionally and it does seem to work, for a few minutes at least.

magneticfield55 · 25/09/2014 13:46

I had it pretty bad until 17 weeks (!!!) and ended up being prescribed metoclopramide. It's safe for pregnancy and worked. Try all the above but if it's so bad you can barely function then there are some medications which can help x

sharond101 · 25/09/2014 14:01

Struggling too and only 6+5. Had HG in first pregnancy and this is not looking good. Everything is making me feel nauseous. I can smell things like I have super powers and all I want to be is horizontal. Fluids are so difficult. Every sip of water makes me belch. Roll on Christmas when surely we should feel much better.

emac80 · 25/09/2014 21:21

i feel the pain..its either getting up at 3am being sick or nothing til midmorning.....i would feel more confident feeling crap all the time for some reason

CloLov · 26/09/2014 09:42

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm 13 weeks pregnant and still being sick most days, all day. I feel like I've tried everything and it's really getting me down. I keep being told it will get easier, I just that moment comes very soon. I haven't got any other tips to share sorry, just wanted to say I feel your pain! x
