30 weeks .. How much worse does it get

I'm finally 39 weeks! Unsure why but this feels like a huge milestone.
I'm still sleeping well other than needing to get up for a wee occasionally, I'm still coping fine at work which is good cause I'm due to work till 39 weeks however I only have to give a weeks notice if I want to leave earlier
I'm struggling to fit in any normal clothes now and over the past week my hip has become really achy towards the end of the day
Other than this .... Is it going to get a lot worse? When did you notice it ?
Did it go quick from the 30 week point for you?

Watching with interest. I can't remember how it went last time but I am exhausted and have had enough and still have another 9 1/2 weeks of work :-( need some positive stories!

ohthegoats · 15/09/2014 20:52

It's got pretty bad since about week 34/35 I'd say. At week 30 I was going to festivals, kayaking, walking the coastal path, gardening, decorating on ladders, installing skirting boards, moving boxes around the house as part of our renovations. By 34 weeks things had started to hurt a bit - mostly my lady-garden area - like I'd been punched.

I'm now 38+2, still at work, and struggling. I hurt all the time... I need a wee all the time, no position is comfortable once I've eaten anything more than a small bowl of cereal in the morning. Getting dressed is even an effort, I'm just so hot the whole time. I've only got 4 days left at work though, thank god - I'm going to spend some hardcore time lying down (on my left hand side obv!) with a book next week.

Binglesplodge · 15/09/2014 22:45

Sorry to say that things have been going downhill for me since 32 weeks - at 30 weeks I was happily on holiday abroad having a lovely time. Now at 36 weeks I'm exhausted, waking in the night with kicking and heartburn despite taking Omeprazole every day, and even slight exertion makes my ribs, bump and back hurt. Make the most of feeling good just in case you're unlucky later...

Gennz · 15/09/2014 23:00

Ooh I'm watching with interest/trepidation as well. I'm just past 29 weeks, and working up to 35 1/2 weeks. I get really tired at about 2.30pm , but then maddeningly can't sleep at night. Also still heaving most mornings Sad Having a newborn has got to be better ... I just can't wait to lie on my stomach and drink more than one glass of wine

hartmel · 16/09/2014 04:39

Sorry but from my side it gets worse. I'm almost 35 weeks and up till 30 weeks I was running after my DS (who turned 1 yesterday) went to a wedding.
But now I'm struggling with a lot of Braxton hicks which can be very painful at some times. I got SPD and PGP.
I had so much planned for my sons birthday (planned it month before) that we couldn't do nearly half of it. Good thing he won't remember Grin

Can't eat much!

I'm not working but being a full time mom there is no looking forward to maternity leave Grin only looking forward to cuddle my baby girl Grin

Good luck and congrats

It varies for everyone, weeks 35-37 were a low point where it all hurt, couldn't sleep, at 38 wks I think my hormones have relaxed my joints so I'm fortunately in less pain (didn't happen with dc1, this is a special dc2 bonus) but I still can't sleep enough and at 3pm everyday I'm so tired I'm eating a slew of sugar/bad carbs. I still reckon doing a desk job at this point would be just fine, entertaining dc1 at this point is hard. But the end is in sight, can't be more than 5 weeks away now!

Topsyloulou · 16/09/2014 06:52

I'm 40+4 now and I'd say things began to get more uncomfortable for me from about 32 weeks. My bump was incredibly high so couldn't eat, very breathless, bad heartburn etc. it dropped slightly about 36 weeks which was such a relief and left me feeling much more comfortable.

Stopped work at 37 weeks which was late enough for me as was getting back ache sitting at a desk all day and the 45 minute drive each way wasn't helping. Since finishing work the horrific nightly leg cramps have stopped.

I'm still sleeping well but turning over in bed is now a major mission and I do wake up a few times a night to turn over as my hips get sore if I sleep on one side too long. I'm walking lots every day, admittedly it is slowly and with a waddle! I'm still getting out and about and driving all over to see friends etc. I'm not very good at being at home on my own and resting so I've got lots of things booked in to keep me busy and take my mind off the fact this baby does not seem to want to come out!

My biggest frustration now is the lack of energy and size of my bump making it difficult for me to do things around the house so get all the jobs you want doing done before 34 weeks and then get DP to help. I'm still doing all the cleaning but struggle to get into the nooks & crannies etc.

Good luck for the next 10 weeks.

twiglet2 · 16/09/2014 09:46

I've had a great second trimester - loads of energy, lots of walking, exercising, went camping for a week at 28 weeks. Just coming up to 31 weeks and my energy levels have nose dived. Struggling at concentrate at work (not great as I still have 6 and half weeks left and lots to do), not able to eat as much, falling asleep on the sofa in the evening and tossing and turning a lot at night. I had to take minutes at a committee meeting last night and today I feel wrecked. Its come as a bit of a surprise, hoping that a bit of exercise this evening will wake me up.

LBNM19 · 16/09/2014 09:48

I felt like that at 30 weeks to, was so I was finally 30 weeks.

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and feel absolutely awful, I can't sleep at night, started being sick again, sore legs...the list could go on.

I hope you stay feeling so well Smile

kitkat321 · 16/09/2014 11:46

Oh dear - this does not bode well for me :(

I'm currently 28+4 and doing ok in the grand scheme of things - other than being a bit fatter and slower I feel better than I did during my 13 to 18 week period when I constantly felt sick.

Here was me hoping that because I'd had a crap time at the start of the pregnancy I might have an easy final trimester but it sounds like that's unlikely!!

ohthegoats · 16/09/2014 12:00

It's just uncomfortable - I try and remember that even if X thing hurts, there are loads of other things on my body that aren't hurting, and focus on those!!

soundsystem · 16/09/2014 12:37

I'm 32 weeks so can't comment on what happens next, but I do seem to have got another burst of energy this week. 28-31 weeks were horrible for me with back and rib pain but it seems to have eased this week (the baby seems to have moved over a bit!), had the energy yesterday to come home and clean the fridge and do some baking after a 12 hour shift!

Fingers crossed you'll stay feeling well :)

hotfuzzra · 16/09/2014 13:31

Watching with interest. I'm 30 weeks and have a wedding (not mine!) and a house move to 'look forward to' before the big day(s).
I have practically no energy, and my lower back/hips/pelvis ache almost constantly. I don't like to moan to anyone other than DH because I've read horror stories on here of poor women who can hardly move and can't turn over in bed. I'm ok apart from a few nighttime twinges, difficulty standing up, and then pain in the first footsteps after getting up, but I've just had a birth ball delivered so I hope that may help.
Luckily I'm able to leave work at 32 weeks having saved all my leave up to use prior to officially leaving at week 36 so I only have 6 shifts left to get through, luckily no nights as I am taking them off for the wedding. I was a bit worried that 8 weeks off work would be too much and I'd get cabin fever etc but with all the stuff I have to do I think it'd be better than having to sit at work every day. I plan on sleeping as much as possible as I imagine I will never EVER have this much free time. Ever again!!
Good luck all, not long left :-)

weebairn · 16/09/2014 13:36

I'm 38 weeks and have days when I have lots of energy and walk around everywhere (slowly) and go swimming and sort the house out and it's lovely not to be at work any more…. and then I have days where I just want to be in bed all day and my pelvis hurts and I'm shattered (these are invariably the days when I'm with toddler and she refuses to sleep!)

So up and down I guess. I think I find it harder emotionally than physically at this stage, getting bigger, getting slower, never knowing when you might go into labour, trying to have everything ready, but trying to be prepared to be like this for another month please god no

Sleep is awful - awake every half hour - in my experience admittedly with a sample of one late pregnancy sleep is SO much worse than newborn sleep!

Polkadotscarf · 17/09/2014 08:15

I was meant to work until 39 weeks but was signed off at 31 (am 33 weeks now) and still off work with the view of starting maternity early. I think it depends in the type of job you have but I couldn't carry on much longer in my job role.
Things haven't got worse but I do feel much better for being able to give in to the uncomfortableness of it all! :-)

Gennz · 17/09/2014 22:14

I must admit - I'm nearly 30 weeks now - I am feeling better than I have all pregnancy. I put on 10kgs by 20 weeks and have only put on another 1.5 so not really feeling much bigger than I did already, the nausea that dogged me up to 28 weeks seems to have subsided a bit famous last words and since I started taking iron supplements and upping my red meat in take last week I feel pretty good. I felt soooo zapped last week I didn't know how I was going to make it through another 6 weeks at work. get your iron levels sorted ladies!!

Annarose2014 · 18/09/2014 13:24

I'm 33 wks now and I left work at the end of 31 weeks. I was in an active physical job so really couldn't do it anymore. Best thing I ever did! I felt 10 times better the following week.

Yes, you sleep horribly at this point, turning over in bed is a major exercise and you get stabbed by sudden pelvic pain doing so that wakes you up.

The worst thing is the physical discomfort. I can't sit normally on an armchair anymore - I have to either be on my exercise ball or lying on the sofa. Watching TV is annoying, for that reason. Can't lie on my back to sleep - breathless. Everything about lounging in general is bloody awkward.

I'm breathless walking and feel like I'm carrying a backpack full of stones in front of me. Even walking up the stairs sucks.

The third trimester is a long road!
