I just can't tell whether I should call the midwives or not

Posted on childbirth but came here for the traffic too.

I'm 28 weeks. Have been feeling "not right" for the past 24 hours. It's mainly nausea before and after eating, dizziness (which is the worst,) a dull headache, excessive thirst and weight loss.

My BP is normally quite low (I average at about 110/60, but in the past 24 hours it's been around 90/50.) My bump has gone down slightly, partly due to unexplained weightloss - if you looked at me you couldn't tell I was pregnant, only if I got completely naked you could see the teardrop shape that my abdomen has taken. Should you be able to tell by now?

I have put on 5kg in 28 weeks. I have eaten A LOT. There is no question of me not having consumed enough.

I have fetal movements though, which haven't really changed.

I'm not having "danger signs." Is this just what the third trimester feels like? I have had a relatively smooth pregnancy so far, maybe I'm just noticing a change now? Maybe if I had been feeling rough all the way through I would have chalked it up to "same old same old."

If in doubt call. Good luck

Also sometimes in the past 24 hours I've felt like I have something seeping out of my vagina and it feels like my period feels. But my pants aren't exactly soaked through, so surely it couldn't be waters leaking?

Of course you should call your midwife or birth centre. Absolutely no reason not to. It's probably nothing, or just fatigue or a bit of a bug. But you are uncertain and none of us can reassure you.

stargirl1701 · 11/09/2014 21:43

Phone. They will reassure you if it is nothing to worry about and see you if it is. Win win!

MrsVamos · 11/09/2014 21:44

If you don't feel right, call or go to hospital.

Theres no harm in checking all is well with you and baby.

Good Luck xxx

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 11/09/2014 21:47

No harm in ringing.

Write down every symptom before you call incase you forget or downplay any.

helensburgh · 11/09/2014 21:47

Phone them, bet o get checked and reassured.

Hope all is ok

TakesTwoToTango · 11/09/2014 21:51

Sorry that sounded much more abrupt than meant it too. What I meant to do is taken the decision out of your worried hands and make it clear cut for you do you don't fret about it any longer.

Given your second post wondering about waters I would definitely call the labour ward and demand to be seen tonight. It is still probably nothing. Maybe even baby having moved position. But you'd ever forgive yourself if it was something and you didn't seek help. Good luck.

Blood pressure that low would explain the dizziness and headache. If you feel like you are leaking fluid and your bump has shrunk then you really should go and get checked.

You would be silly not to get checked it is what the midwives are there for. Better to feel a bit silly because all is well than not get checked out and finding yourself in some sort of emergency situation.

Good luck.

WiggleGinger · 11/09/2014 21:57

Excessive thirst and weight loss can be symptoms of Type 1 diabetes so get yourself checked if only to rule it out. Hope all works out well for you.
