Worried I'm having a miscarriage - 9 weeks

Hi all,
I'm 9 weeks pregnant and this morning had some very feint blood when I went to the loo (but also a very metallic, irony blood smell - sorry TMI).
I did a pregnancy test and the line was there but very feint, although the control line was strong. I'm really worried -- should I go to the doctor? Does anyone have any experience of this?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Do you have an EPU (Early Pregnancy Unit) near you? I would contact them and see if you can self refer. They may say you need a referral from your GP.

There is a thing called the hook effect whereby your HCG levels become too high for the tests to cope with and they show negative. Any time after about 6-7 weeks, scans are the most effective way of checking a pregnancy.

However, tell the EPU / GP that you have had bleeding and a faint pregn test, they should be able to see you and hopefully scan you.

Good luck x

Echo the advice from SeaSaltMill. I had similar at 8 weeks and was referred to EPU and all was fine (now 24 weeks) so fingers crossed you get the referral and all is fine.

Hi - thanks. I've looked it up but have to be referred by GP, so have made an appt. I'm so worried - but reassured by your stories/advice.

From experience, I was told to wait it out 24hrs and see what happened, and to only try and get referred if bleeding got heavy and/or I got strong cramps.

Hi partyskirt, please try not to worry. A bit of faint spotting can be normal, for many reasons, but as the others have said, an early scan will put your mind at rest. I booked an early scan due to spotting and found I have something called a haematoma which was described to me as a blood blister. This is why I'm having the spotting, but the haematoma will either bleed out or absorb itself back in. I wish you all the best and please update us when you know more, if you get the time Thanks x

Thank you Roseylee. I've had no more bleeding -- and seeing Dr tomorrow (just for referral - unless you think she'd be able to hear heartbeat at 10 weeks?) so feeling tentatively optimistic. I've had a MC before you see, so any blood is just an instant reminder.

Hello all - just to let you know I had my scan and it was all fine! No explanation for spotting, but I felt so grateful to see little person jiggling away. xx Thanks so much for support
