Depressed over my cankles and my weight gain in general

The title says it all... My cankles depress me. I feel so silly writing this considering how many terrible problems some ladies develop throughout pregnancy... Blush

I have put on a LOT of weight. And I mean A LOT. So much so that I can't find any maternity trousers that would fit me and that would be suitable for work. So I thought I could try dresses, right? After all, I lived in them pre-pregnancy. And then I had a look at my ankles. I don't know why, I burst into tears Blush

Please tell me I am not the only one who feel and actually IS mahoosive and have a cankle problem...

PS: "depressed" is probably too strong a word. I'm still feeling very despondent though Blush

I'm 19 weeks and I've put on nearly 7kg which I'm really depressed about. It's more than you're supposed to put on and I'm dreading being told off by a midwive. I'd got down to my ideal weight for my wedding and then found out I was pregnant on honeymoon and bang, since then I've just been expanding everywhere. I'm not a big person - size eight normally, so this weight gain has really bothered me. You're not alone. Just have to lose it the other end.

I can really sympathise: I lost a lot of weight before I got pregnant and had maintained for 6 months. And it feels like I am ruining everything right now.

I don't eat much junk, but I eat all the time... And my portions are huge.

I know my midwife will tell me off at my 24 week appointment.

Like you, the only thing that's keeping me sane is knowing that this is weight I can lose relatively quickly and easily (compared to my previous loss which was "old" fat accumulated over a decade).

Pregnancy isn't all bad though: my hair is gorgeous and my skin is beautiful! Grin

It may or may not help you to know that I put on 30kg. I literally ate for two and ate a share bag of skittles most nights.

I lost it within a couple of months after an emcs birth with light exercise and careful eating!

Accept what happens to your body now and change it when you can after the birth Grin

midwife probably won't care! I was a size 8 pre pregnancy and put on 4 stone! no midwife ever mentioned it to me!

baby is now 13 weeks. I lost a stone when baby was born and have just one stone left to lose.

I wouldn't worry too much, it will come off after baby comes

It helps so much knowing I'm not the only one and that you both managed to lose it "quickly".

Thank God I discovered weight training before I got pregnant: this helped me shed a lot of weight and maintain! I'm going back to it after the birth!!

Are you doing any excercise at the minute? I had bleeding and didn't dare do anything other than power walking and evidently it didn't help me but could help you?

HumTiddlyTum · 07/09/2014 19:27

I know you probably don't want to hear this but, stop looking at this being a negative. You're pregnant. Enjoy it. Hundreds would kill to be you right now. Smile embrace your crankles.

With my DS1 I put on 3.5 stones and my midwife never weighed me so she didn't know and didn't comment on it either!

I also had cankles through swelling and my feet looked like a baby's feet (looked like I didn't have any bones they were so swollen!).

I lost all the weight afterwards without sound anything - took me about 9 months but I got there. Think it was mostly to do with bf - I was eating no less than 6 chocolate bars a day (plus real food) in the first few months and the weight fell off me!

I'm 34 weeks with DS2 and going the same way (although no swelling this time) but I'm not worried.

Just eat sensibly... Maybe but a bag of skittles every night. All that sugar is not good. Pregnancy isn't an excuse to eat rubbish but never deprive yourself. Eat heartily and well and have some treats every now and then.

Exercise is good as it'll help prepare (and make it easier) for giving birth. Until i finished work I just walked about 25 mins to and from the car park and used the stairs. Not always possible I know if you have PGP etc. but always remember, you're supposed to put on weight when you're preggers. Staying hydrated will help with water retention.

I put on huge amounts of weight with all mine dd1 about 3 stone dd2 4 stone and Ds1 a whopping 5 stone!
I lost it really quickly with them all never got a stretch mark and my tummy went back to normal.
Im 35 weeks this time and not put on so much about two and a half stone not done anything differently just not put as much on when I'm ready I will go back to slimming world and get it off.

I really wouldn't worry and none of my midwives have ever said anything about my weight gains.

Well ladies, I think I have found a solution to limit my insatiable appetite: I eat smaller meals, but more often. It seems to be working so far... I also got rid of the scales as I know looking at them alone was making me feel guilty.

McBear I exercised 4 times a week (with lighter weights) until MS hit at around 7-8 weeks. After that, only walking. I would have stopped too if I had had any bleeding!!

Daily foot massages from DH are also helping!! And cold water.

As you can see, I am feeling much more upbeat this week!! And I have fantastic friends at work who really made me see how daft I was to worry over something instead of enjoying my pregnancy Smile
