Anterior placenta and feeling baby move

Hi all. Had a private scan this morning which revealed I had an anterior placenta. This will be our 3rd (and last!) baby so I know how baby movements feel and if the sonographer is right I may not feel much in the way of movement for the rest of my pregnancy! I'm really anxious and worrying more this time and was hoping my anxiety would settle once my ds was moving regularly as I'd know he was hopefully ok. Now I'm thinking I may not get that reassurance after all! Anyone else had this and felt reduced movements or did it just take a bit longer to feel anything regularly? I'm 17+6 and so far felt nothing Sad .

I only started feeling a few flutters just before the 20 week scan. It soon progressed to proper kicks etc and at 38+4 there are times now when it hurts! You will feel plenty of movement if my experience is anything to go by.

I certainly felt movements, probably from about 18-19 weeks. My husband could feel kicks from the outside from about 22 weeks and at 37 weeks now they're pretty much constant :)

RockCrushesLizard · 07/09/2014 15:29

I felt the first flutters at 19 weeks. DH could feel movement from about 24 weeks.

I have an anterior placenta but at 29 weeks I'm feeling a LOT of movements. Felt them from 18 weeks onwards, took until about 22 weeks for my husband to feel them...

Annarose2014 · 07/09/2014 15:48

Don't worry - you will feel movement. I felt nothing till about 21/22 weeks as far as I remember, but after that I felt a fair bit, mostly on each side.

Now baby is bigger and stronger I am feeling them almost all over.

If you are anxious, buy a Doppler on Amazon for reassurance. Helped me a lot, but i don't need to use it anymore.

Easy to say, but don't worry! I first felt something around week 20 (and even then I wasn't convinced it was bean moving around!). Now 29 weeks like twiglet and am definitely getting battered Grin and can see my bump wobbling around like jelly on a plate if I'm lying in a certain position!

Anterior here too, however I felt them at 16 weeks for definite and husband at 19 weeks. I may be in the minority though.
Not sure 'how' anterior I am though or where it is, sonographer was a bit useless.

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 07/09/2014 15:57

I had an anterior placenta and I could feel faint occasional movements by 18 weeks and more reliable movements by 21 weeks or so. Lots and lots of movement later on though (DD was a wriggler from the outset), so if it's less than "normal" then "normal" must mean getting thumped!

Thanks ladies, I feel so much better after reading your comments xx

Mine is anterior and crikey, I would be in serious discomfort if I could feel any more movement! Felt fluttering really early on too, around 14 weeks. Felt from the outside around 22 weeks and now jumping around crazily and poking out at all angles at 34 weeks! x

Scoobsmam13 · 07/09/2014 20:07

I have a high anterior placenta and this is my second. I have felt light movement since 16 or so weeks, I am now 23 weeks and get a lot of movement, constantly, very visible from the outside. I think I too am in the minority as my m/w seemed surprised (baby has super long legs tho according to 20wk scan so that may be the reason!)

Pregnantagain7 · 07/09/2014 22:08

I'm pregnant with my fourth with an anterior placenta. Placentas with the others have always been posterior. I felt flutters at about 13 weeks low down behind my pubic bone but didn't feel proper movements until about 24 weeks it wasn't very nice because I felt like I was missing out but from about28 weeks was feeling regular movement. I'm 35 weeks now and it's not really that different to any of my other pregnancies.

Gennz · 07/09/2014 22:24

Hi Lucky I have an anterior placenta and am 28 weeks today.

The earliest I think I felt something was 16 weeks, and it felt like a small muscle twitch in my stomach, not at all like a kick. But it was very sporadic and it wasn't really until 22, 23 weeks I could really identify them as kicks. Even up to about 24 - 25 weeks I could go for a while (say a day or two) without feeling anything which was a little bit unsettling. Now I am getting booted quite regularly, particularly after coffee or chocolate, or when I am trying to go to sleep at night!

Thanks again everyone. We know from our scan yesterday our little one is long-legged too (just like his brothers were!) so hoping that will make a difference as well. I think it was the thought yesterday of not feeling much movement that got me so upset. For me, feeling the baby move has been part of the bonding process. You have all made me feel so much better x Smile

I didn't feel anything until 23 weeks (first pregnancy - anterior placenta). My friend in same position didn't feel anything until 25 weeks.

Missingcaffeine · 08/09/2014 11:07

Since movements started, they have been easy to feel though. Please don't worry!
