Hi i was hoping to find some other older mums to chat to about this pregnancy. I am only 4 weeks pregnant and although planned, it was a decision made on holiday 2 and half weeks ago! I have always wanted 3 kids, dh wanted to stop after 2 and so we did. Now he has come round to the idea and so we thought we would give it a go....! Just told him and he is in shock and to be honest I am very nervous. I hope there are some others out there to reassure me and offer some advice xxx

Hi congratulations! I had DC3 10 months ago at the age of 42 and he's the best thing ever. My other 2DC are 15&13 and they are brilliant with him. He wasn't planned and I was in shock that I had got caught at my age but with all the scare mongering I can honestly say he was the easiest pregnancy of all of them. I had the nuchal scan at 12 weeks which came back 1:19000 and a CS at 39 weeks but only because of 2 previous CS but I was told that I would have been induced at 39 weeks anyway as women over 40 aren't allowed to go over this and be prepared for consultant led care and a few more tests etc but overall things were fine

Hey Party. I'm five weeks pregnant with number two. I have a ten months old and am 41 just now. My first pregnancy was very textbook despite being considered high risk due to age and a couple of other things.

I'm very nervous too. Due to age decided to try quite quickly after number one and it happened in first month of ttc. Like you we are both pretty shocked and not quite used to it! Also quite worried about complications.

What age are your other two? No one batted an eye at my age during first pregnancy but somehow being 42,when this one is born seems older. Bursting to tell someone though so thanks for the thread!

crispiecrunchie · 07/09/2014 09:26

Just in to add I was also induced but I went to 41+6 and consultant was very understanding. There was a wee bit pressure though to be induced on due date.

ohthegoats · 07/09/2014 09:33

I'm 40 (first pregnancy tho), and have had a pretty easy time. I'm consultant led, but not due to age. You'll get some extra appointments for things like pre eclampsia risk, and possible suggestions for induction. I've been told they'll 'let' me go to 41 weeks, but I'll probably argue with that nearer the time (currently 37 weeks). Anyway, congratulations - it'll be fine!

MHIB · 07/09/2014 09:38

I'm 40 and pregnant with twins (only 7 weeks) and this is my first pregnancy. Excited and daunted in equal measures. I have quite a few friends that had first children in 40s as well as those who had third or fourth. It'll keep us young!

Pattymc1 · 07/09/2014 13:43

wow thanks so much for your replies it is lovely to be able to share with someone else as petrified about telling my mum!
my other 2 are boys, 7 and 4 - noisy! my eldest has a few behavioural issues which I would say is the reason we had stopped at 2 BUT we talked a lot about this and decided that we would just jump right back in! I really wasn't expecting to be pregnant straight away but I have to admit I felt pregnant almost immediately with metallic taste, insomnia and a couple of other signs I recognised from last 2.

I will be very honest, I am nervous about the health of my child so I would appreciate any advice on that front. Saying that, I am firmly staying positive and trying not to let my mind wander too much.
nervous but excited too!!

It's natural to be worried. I am too and was last time round. But the odds are our babies will be fine. Have you decided what to do about testing at the 12 week scan?

Ame40 · 07/09/2014 17:47

Currently 12 weeks with number 3 (ds9 and dd6). This was planned but never thought it would happen so like you are in complete shock! I agree- v nervous !!!

Pattymc1 · 07/09/2014 18:50

just can't believe we will be going back to nappies and sleepless nights.
but always wanted 3 and never felt quite complete. youngest just started school so seemed like now or never. DH is really quiet today. he can't quite get his head around it yet...!

Hi I am currently 5 weeks with my 3rd. I'm 41 will be 42 when baby comes. My older children will be 9 & 12 so huge gap. I really didn't think I cld possible get pregnant again due to age and had loads of gynae surgery that has left me with one ovary but it's obviously meant to be. I also can't believe going back to nappies and sleepless nights, but v excited aswell. Feels like I will be starting all over again, don't have a thing, so will hopefully get some stuff from frends and I think with experience of already having 2 you know you really don't need half the stuff you had for the first.

I'm feeling really normal at mo, except huge boobs ?? and v bloated in evening but determined to stay healthy during this one and not put on tons if weight, think now we are older will be harder to shift.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

BeginnerSAHM · 07/09/2014 19:38

Congratulations!! Currently 23/24 weeks with number 3 and I'm 39. Baby will be about 3 months old on my 40th birthday... Took ages for DH to come round too so we have a largish age gap - dc1 is 6 and dc2 is just 5. Found out I was pregnant exactly 2.5 weeks after he agreed to try as well.... Turns out my fertility didn't drop off a cliff... Don't worry, you'll be fine. I hope... Grin

Pattymc1 · 07/09/2014 20:12

sounds similar to us. also have got rid of all our baby stuff so will borrow and yes agree you just don't need half of it anyway.
buggy
car seat
Moses basket
nappies!!!! I keep swinging from excitement to "what on earth are you doing!!!"
friends and family will be very very surprised too.

Am so glad to have found this thread. I am 41yrs and 9wks with DC3. After over 2yrs of trying for DC3, we had pretty much given up. The day before I tested, my DSis and I had a big chat about how I really don't need anymore kids, how I can go back to work when DC2 starts school next year, and how DH and I can stop struggling with money. Hmm

I am swinging between 'yippee I'm pregnant' and 'wtf' but secretly am excited - enough to be considering names. (I know I shouldn't until after my scan)

Pattymc1 · 09/09/2014 04:53

I think we are both excited but not really talking about it yet. I think until I have had my scans I will be nervous about announcing to my friends but as I am rather fond of a few drinks it will be very hard to keep quiet. Luckily I have really got into juicing recently and had already started a month off the book for September so I have a few weeks to keep quiet.

I am also delighted to have found this thread - I am 5 weeks and 41 years old with my second. very nervous this time round for some reason, don't remember the hormones being so bad before! :)

BHR2003 · 10/09/2014 10:44

How you feeling today pattymc1??

I'm feeling v much pregnant but still scared witless about the risks, just a waiting game and thinking about the harmony test. I'm also waiting for a follow up scan for my ovarian issues shortly so hoping they might be able to see something to give me assurance as the 12 week wait to know is killing me already.....hopefully be able to have one around weeks8-10.

Does anyone feel very bloated in the evening? I feel like I look pregnant by nighttime, so strange this early on, but wonder if it's because my stomach muscles aren't was they used to be??

Be good to keep this thread going to keep each other company

MHIB · 10/09/2014 16:03

I feel positively huge! Put in weight due to IVF drugs and..it's twins but at 7+5 there are a number of my clothes that are already too tight and hate feeling uncomfortable - and yes v bloated in evening!

Pattymc1 · 10/09/2014 18:39

feeling fine but appetite is increasing and bloated too especially towards the end of the day which I remember well from last pregnancies. very impatient and just want to move forward months and all to be well of course! also want to talk to some friends about it but reticent to mention as so early.

must be patient must be patient!

I got my scan appointment through for 6 October which will be when I'm 9 weeks. Just want the next few weeks to fly by. I've been really good food wise during the day then evening comes and I am famished, probably why I'm so bloated!

Let's keep patient ladies....be here before we know it and then we can tell everyone!

Pattymc1 · 10/09/2014 20:27

So true, just need to lie low and look after ourselves.

I'm 40 in a couple of months and just found out I'm pregnant. No idea how far felt really tired and had dreadful indegestion at the weekend. Made a comment to DH that if I'd not had a period last week I'd think I was pregnant.....DS is 11months so just thought light period was body getting back to normal. No idea how far along I am. Last time no symptoms until week 7 or 8. Seeing GP on Fri for dating scan referal. I'm going back to work in October so it's a bit embarrassing. we want a number 2 but weren't trying yet. Honestly DS took long enough with lots of trying. This one happened despite not trying so much (tired). Sorry tmi.
Am nervous, slightly scared as was just getting my life back and no idea how I'll cope with 2 under 2. Also worried about scans and tests etc.

regularbutpanickingabit · 10/09/2014 21:13

Congratulations!! Am 41 and just going to sneak this baby out before I hit 42.Currently 26 weeks pg and already have an 8 and 9 year old. This one was a surprise, especially after years of fertility issues and multiple miscarriages!!
We are so excited and terrified in about equal measure.

Pattymc1 · 24/09/2014 15:06

Hi I'm off for my 6 week scan this evening, been SO emotional and the temper on me is something else, my poor kids!

OP posts:
BHR2003 · 24/09/2014 15:39

Hi good luck with scan. How did you get it so early? Saw my GP yesterday who has referred me as high risk to antenatal at hospital so just waiting to hear. Think I'm between 7-8 weeks, really wld like an early scan, not sure how to rush through, GP wasn't much help. Be good to hear how it goes.

Pattymc1 · 24/09/2014 20:00

hi well I had the scan and saw a heartbeat! I paid £60, just impatient and wanted the reassurance. not cheap but think I have saved double that from not drinking and going out in the last few weeks!
