decongestants for allergy?

Hi :)

Hoping some amazing mum or mum to be can help me...

Since being pregnant my doctor changed a lot of my medication and stopped others.

The downside to this is it wasn't until my allergy tablets have been stopped that I realise I am allergic to my beloved fat cat. Is it safe to use Olbas Oil or another decongestant while I'm pregnant. I've got Prevalin allergy and this just isn't strong enough to make any notice at all.

Hope someone can help me and thank you all for reading

:)

what allergy tablets were stopped? You can take loratidine or cetirizine in pregnancy

I used Friars Balsam for stuffy nose and sinuses during pregnancy

Thanks for your adbice, I ued to take loratadinevand Sudafed each day and my doctor stopped them both I think possibly because of my other medicines and because they class me as a high risk pregnancy. I even went to three different chemists trying to get a better answer who only said go to my doctor
I might just try asking my doctor again to see about loratadine
Hopefully this will be sorted! :-)
Thank you for your lovely advice

I feel your pain! My allergies were driving me mad and was sneezing all night long. I tried the prevalin and hay max but they only gave me short term relief... Ie ten minutes before I sneezed again! In the end I bought a air purifier which I have on all night in my bedroom. It's amazing!! Which I had bought one years ago!!
Hope you find a solution soon x

Try a spray called Sterimar (I think) - natural saline solution. I used it when I got sinusitis early pregnancy.

starflowerangel · 07/09/2014 23:51

Thanks I'll look into an air purifier I'm finding that the nasal relief is like ten minutes and you can only have so many puffs a day... I think I'd need it on freeflow lol.
Thank you everyone :) :) :)

sorry to say it, but if you are allergic you should think of rehoming the cat.

LittlePeasMummy1 · 08/09/2014 10:44

Hello, sorry to hear about your allergy, as a cat lover, I know how awful this must be.

Below are some patient information leafelts about use of different antihistamines in pregnancy. They are not absolutely 'not recommended' but you should always speak to your doctor if you are planning to use them and this info will allow you to weigh up the risks/benefits.

Decongestant tablets that contain pseudoephidrine are not recommended in pregnancy because they can potentially affect the placenta.

Hope this is helpful

Thank you so much for your advice, our cats are ones we rescued from the Wainwright Centre and love dearly (they are brothers) and we could never part with them. Can I ask Fingerscrossed10 what type of air purifier? I am confused as having looked into them, there are some on amazon for £20 upover or then there are some in argos etc which start around £100 up to £250. What type would you suggest? All help is very much appreciated :)

Hi
I know I felt the same confusion so went for middle ground with the best reviews! I got a hepa one from amazon. It was £59.99, I figured we probably spend that on antihistamines throughout the summer anyway!!
Here is the link...
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0001CGKGU/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1410378067&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165
In case the link doesn't work it is called hepa air purifier with ioniser and remote control. It's grey and is a kinda rounded square shape!
Hope it works it has definitely improved things for us

starflowerangel · 12/09/2014 16:24

Thanks very much I hope it works! Fingers crossed :-)

Me too!! You might just have to give it a good old spring clean in there and switch it on a few hours before bed the first night and obviously ban the cat from entering!
Hopefully it will give you a few hours respite and most importantly some sleep!!
Let me know how it goes x
