Any maternity swimsuit tips?

So dh and I have sworn we will take ds swimming next week, and I'm scouring t'internet for some kind of preggo swimwear.

Basically I have out on a heouge amount of weight this time and don't really feel great about anyone seeing very much if me right now. So the more coverage the better really. I'd prefer tankini style/shorts as opposed to tiny pants, as I can't really see my bikini line very well and don't want to take any chances!

I've looked on amazon (all a bit strange), jojomamanbebe, new look, topshop, all the usual suspects (asos, mothercare, fig leaves) and they are soooo tight and revealing and non shorty.

It's a tall order but if anyone has found anything good let me know!

It's probably not helpful but I just wear my normal tankini. Obviously it's getting shirt in the midrift. But I have stopped caring especially there is even stretch marks on my inner thighs. Not a good look but then I guess I just look very pregnant! (38 weeks btw and last went swimming with DD 2 weeks ago).

Hi Op
I have got some a normal tankini top from BHS and a skirtini. The skirtini has been a life saver, it covers all of my bum and tops of my legs so I feel really comfortable, I hate all of these skimpy tight pants! I got the top and skirtini in 2/3 sizes bigger than normal and they fit really well. I hope this helps xxx

I got a tankini from jo jo maman bebe. The pants come right up over your bump and lowish (not high cut) and the top comes really low down so no danger of bump peeking out in between. I like it.

Mbo33 · 04/09/2014 22:12

Try decathalon, they do proper all in one swimsuits.

CoolCat2014 · 04/09/2014 23:24

I got a fab tankini from mamas & papas. Very modest, perfect for covering up stretch marks!

M&S do some sometimes, can't comment on what they are like.

I have a lovely one piece from asos. I got the black one. It's kind of structured a bit so it's very flattering and I like the fact that you can wear it strapless, normal straps or halter neck. It has a cut out back as well. I wasn't so keen on the bow at the front at first but it doesn't get in the way. Anyway of all my maternity wear it's the best investment. wish I got one in every colour. It's true to size and its seen me through my entire pregnancy.

I got one online from M&S a few weeks ago. Not used it yet but it's a good cut.

ShoeJunkie · 05/09/2014 07:21

I ended up with a cheapo swimsuit from Matalan.

lavendersun · 05/09/2014 07:30

Try Speedo direct - I have a swimsuit with short type legs - good for proper swimming and covering up a bit.

redexpat · 05/09/2014 16:14

I got a tankini from seraphine. Easier to whip the bottoms down to pee Grin

Loujim2 · 05/09/2014 16:57

I got mine from Asda online. It was a swimsuit tho, not tankini. But was low cut so no need to do bikini line if you don't want to. Very comfy and quite flattering too. Hope you find something x

I went and bought a swimming costume with underwired cups in non-maternity three sizes too big. Because it's got the underwired cups, it's a bit more solid on the top, so hasn't flapped around too much.

The one thing I notice about aquanatal etc, is that all the maternity tankinis are loose - when we do any jumping about, their tops all ride up and boobs fall out of tops. No one really cares, but if you DO care about it, then avoid them.

I figure that my swimming costume will still be useful for the months after birth - although I have used it lots while pregnant, I've been swimming quite often.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 05/09/2014 18:56

Last pregnancy I had a tankini that was as ohthegoats mentions top road up all the time ended up tucking into bottoms.

This time got one from mamas n papas n it's great no riding up its a great fit haven't flashed anyone yet

Mumraathenoisylion · 05/09/2014 19:17

mamas and papas?

Mintberrycrunch · 05/09/2014 21:37

I got mine from decathlon.

museumum · 05/09/2014 21:41

I wore a maternity tanking top over the top of my usual sporty boy-shorts and crop top bikini.
My normal bikini top was a bit small but it kept my boobs under control and with the maternity tanking top on top you couldn't see it.

Knottyknitter · 05/09/2014 21:44

Jojomamanbebe tankini.

I got it as the only option that wasn't halterneck (needed to enclose the boobs while actually swimming)

Other advantage is if you need to get out and pee its a two piece!

GeekyHybrid · 05/09/2014 22:17

Cheapy option is Sports Direct - they had an all in one Slazenger that was cycle short style. Not great for holiday - no such thing as 'nipping' to the loo. but coverage is good so for a session at the local pool with dc's would be great.

Lily31 · 05/09/2014 22:54

I've loved my Jo Jo maman tankini. As mentioned by others, the top pulls right down over the bump. You could combine it with a skirtini.

Stars66 · 05/09/2014 23:08

I got a lovely one from mamas&papas

Fermin · 05/09/2014 23:10

I got the cache coeur tankini set from Asos. m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/Cache-Coeur/Cache-Coeur-Maternity-Eden-Tankini-Set/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4229319&un_jtt_application_platform=newPlp&un_jtt_redirec

It's ££ more than I wanted to spend but I want to do regular swimming, have a weeks hols and a hen do at a spa so I figure it will be worth it. The top is loose and flattering over the bump bit and can be pulled with adjustable ties at the bottom so it will grow with my bump too. I have already discarded the bikini bottoms that came with it in favour of my own black ones which go perfectly well. Pre-pregnancy I am size 14 and I ordered size L (it goes up to XXL)

barmybunting · 05/09/2014 23:12

After ordering various tankinis and finding them dreadful, I ended up with a maternity swimsuit from zoggs. If you goggle, different options come up. It is very supportive and comfy!

CornettoAddict · 06/09/2014 00:42

Have you tried Tesco? They have a few tankini tops and shorts on their website. I got a top and short set from there last year for about £15. It wasn't the nicest swimwear I've ever owned, but it did the trick of maximum coverage!

LetticeKnollys · 06/09/2014 20:13

I rocked my rainbow striped bikini!

[Possibly unhelpful] Wink

Jenni2legs · 07/09/2014 16:46

I am really liking the star print tankini.
