Early miscarriage? Pretty sure but not certain what to expect?

Hello all. I posted last week about light bleeding and needing an early scan. Was scanned on 29.08.14 and sac etc looked good, asked to return on 11.09.14 for follow up scan to check still progressing. On sat 30.08.14 my bleeding turned red and has been like a period since. Yesterday I passed some biggish clots and some of what I think was tissue but I'm not sure. Very little in the way of pain and bleeding not heavy, still just a regular period. Takes a good few hours to half fill a pad. I'm pretty sure that I have miscarried as the cervix would have to be open to pass clots I would have thought, but how do I know when everything is done? EPAU still seeing me on 11th so quite a wait to find out if I'm ok, if I need a D&C or if by some miracle I'm still pregnant! Any advice I can get would be most appreciated! I have never miscarried so I have no idea what it should look/feel like!! Is it even possible to lose blood for days with large clots and still be pregnant?! Help please!! Thank you xx

Hi Hullabaloo,
Sorry to hear what's happening to you. Unfortunately as you already know heavy bleeding and passing clots is often bad news. Not 100% of the time though, as some people do have an area of bleeding in the uterus called a subchorionic haematoma, which can come out as heavy bleeding and the baby is totally fine. I think it is best to be realistic and prepare yourself mentally for bad news as you are doing.
A scan is now really the only way to know what exactly has happened and whether everything has come out. I would suggest phoning the EPAU, telling them your bleeding has been much worse with clots etc, and see if they want to bring your scan date forwards.
How many weeks are you? with my miscarriage at 12 weeks the bleeding was very very heavy, enough to cover the bathroom floor in a few minutes, and I still needed medical management afterwards because my cervix had closed too early before everything had come out. An earlier miscarriage at 5-6 weeks or so people say is not much heavier than a period. So in my experience its really hard to tell just by the amount of bleeding what exactly is going on inside.
Let us know how you get on, I'll be thinking of you

Thank you so much for your reply. Yes I am prepared for the worst and told OH who bless him is away with work (armed forces) that it's 99% likely I've miscarried. EPAU called me this morning and said they don't want to see me sooner, they said if it's a miscarriage they want to give me a week or so for things to happen on their own, and if it's not they need the 2 week window still to measure for growth so wither way it's a waiting game. Taken today off work as I'm still quite heavy and feeling very tired but will probably go back tomorrow and just get on with things. Will just be glad to get the confirmation so I know everything is ok, or book my D&C if not. My OH is devastated he was so looking forward to bring a daddy Sad but we will try again. I hear your often quite fertile after a mc so who knows it could be sooner rather than later Smile
