I am 38+6 and really want to avoid a late August baby. Have been given horror stories by teacher friends for the last 9 months about how I need to hold it in until the new school year and they have got me slightly Confused. Is anyone else crossing their legs? I'm sure after Monday I'll be the complete opposite and trying every eviction trick going, can't please some people! Grin

Good to hear positive August baby stories, I'm 38+6 and current lying down at every opportunity, he's above 90th centile so I'm thinking gravity is the way to start getting him out from Sunday 8 pm onwards should be safe to bounce on ball and I'm being taken out for walkies Monday :)

I really don't think it makes much difference and the fuss over it surprises me.
I am august b day and was always in top set although was a bit lazy at gcse so could have maybe done better but at primary was always the top marks in class.
My middle dd birthday was yesterday and out of her year of 60 she is among the highest achieving children and although only 10 is already been put at level 5 or above.
Really just enjoy new baby no matter when they arrive !!

My dd3 was born 3 weeks ago, but was only due on sept 9th. When we thought about ttc last year dh was adamant that we couldn't start trying until we would be sure to have a September baby - he is an August baby and has always hated it.

But the best laid plans often go wrong and she was born on August 11th at 35 weeks. I've consoled dh with a) the fact she is super strong and healthy despite being prem and b) the huge childcare savings. I'm hoping as she is no 3 she will be ok socially when she starts school but who knows!

I'm a teacher. I'm 39 + 4. I just want it over with now Grin

August born DS1 has just finished reception. The thought that if he'd been born a few days later would have had him not starting until next week fills me with horror. He was so ready for school and has enjoyed it and achieved loads.

0898 · 30/08/2014 21:50

I'm not sure my post makes sense Confused

Hatetidyingthehouse · 30/08/2014 22:02

1 more day to go! (40+3)
My ds was born at 40+4

SmileAndNod · 30/08/2014 22:05

Today was my due date (seven years ago). I really didn't want an August baby and lucky for me he was a lazy laid back thing and arrived in September. That said he did cause an extra year of expense childcare wise and is no less of a worry even now.

I think babies come when they're ready, regardless of your plans or wishes (yes dc3 I'm looking at you). Just enjoy those newborn snuggles!

LizzieMint · 30/08/2014 22:11

I was here 4 years ago. My baby was due 15th August, so we were completely resigned to having an August baby and a young 'un in the school year. I went for my overdue check at 9 days over and as I wanted a home birth, I refused induction but jokingly said if I was still pregnant on the 1st September (16 days overdue), they could induce me. The little bugger stayed in till 18 days overdue! I did have a lovely home birth though.
And as she's my last one (third baby), I'm so very glad I have an extra year with her at home rather than sending her off to school this week.
Good luck to everyone waiting!

OddBoots · 30/08/2014 22:15

It's very much swings and roundabouts, I know a few Sept born children who really would have better suited being in the year above. There are more options to keep an Aug born back than to there are to get a Sept born in a year above.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 31/08/2014 12:11

I dont think anyones mentioned that you can chose to keep an august baby back a year, so they start school as the very oldest in class instead of youngest. It was in the news earlier this year about some local authorities not being up front with that information and it being down to parents to find it out.

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 31/08/2014 12:29

Less than 12 hours if anyone wants an august baby Grin
I'm not going to get mine am I?! Hmm
Have been pressing pressure points and running my nipples for days.
Giving up now and resigning myself to being pregnant forever a lot longer.

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 31/08/2014 12:30

Er, rubbing nipples obviously Confused

Pregnantagain7 · 31/08/2014 14:35

I'm keeping my fingers crossed (and legs) til midnight but only because I don't want two in the same school year Grin

Seriouslyffs · 31/08/2014 14:40

I would have been on this thread 18 years ago! In the end DD1 was an August birthday but it's worked to her advantage. She was more than ready to start with her cohort but has been able to redo her AS levels after changing her mind about what direction to follow with out really losing a year.
Flowers Good Luck to you all!

DoctorRock · 31/08/2014 15:01

We are hanging on for September. Never wished August away before!

timefortea79 · 31/08/2014 17:29

I'm 40+6 today and I've just started to allow myself to think I might have made it to September. My original date was brought forward after scans, turns out it was probably more accurate after all!

Hatetidyingthehouse · 31/08/2014 19:02

40+4. Giving it til 10pm then think il be safe!

mummybare · 31/08/2014 22:17

So many twinges tonight it is unreal but I think he's just keeping us on our toes. It's pretty unlikely he'll make an appearance before September now...

Seriouslyffs · 01/09/2014 10:45

WELL DONE Y'ALL!!!

WaffleWiffle · 01/09/2014 11:54

Right baby, I'd quite like you to come ASAP now that it's September!

38 weeks is enough for me.

ohthegoats · 01/09/2014 17:18

I was at the hospital this morning for a scan - there were LOADS of women there in labour, far more than normal. Wonder if it's a coincidence - they've been crossing their legs for the weekend. Ha.

weebairn · 01/09/2014 17:51

waffleWiffle you will rue the day you told baby to stay inside if you end up having an October baby Grin

TheScenicRoute · 01/09/2014 18:42

Yay! You made it ladies. X

confusedgirlfromtheShire · 01/09/2014 20:02

Woo hoo! Right, about that pineapple.... when you're putting it in, does it go leaves first or spiky skin first...? Grin
