Early pregnancy paranoia

Hello all. Just looking for some perspective / reassurance if possible. The breadknife is currently pregnant (4w6d). This has taken years of hospital visits, three rounds of IVF, our entire life savings, and has just been a massive pain in the neck for both of us.

Our first scan isn't until the second week in September, and while I'm absolutely over the moon, there's a constant nagging feeling that it can't have worked. I can't concentrate on anything, and I don't think I'm going to even begin to relax until we've heard a heartbeat.

Does anyone have any reliable numbers on biochemical pregnancy rates for IVF? It would be nice to at least know whether I'm worrying unnecessarily...

I cant help you with statistics but I do know exactly how you feel, it took us nearly 3 years and 4 miscarriages before we got out precious baby girl who is now 10 weeks old. I thought if I could get to 12 weeks I would be fine but I wasn't I worried the whole way through I just expected something to go wrong like it was too good to be true things were going ok, I had countless scans which did help a lot but when you've fought so hard you just want that baby in your arms. Good luck I hope everything goes ok for you both which I'm sure it will and you can both enjoy the pregnancy it's the most amazing thing in the world :)

I also can't help with the statistics, but I'm here for a hand hold. After 13.5 years, three rounds of IVF and a hefty loan I am also either 5w1d or 4w6d depending on whether you go on age of embryo or lmp. My first scan is also second week of September.

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant after ivf and what your feeling is totally normal! I was so nervous before my first scan I cannot even describe the relief I felt when all was fine (in fact dh and I both cried!) having said that I'm past the danger point and still cannot believe it's happening and actually real. I think when it's taken so long to get pregnant you don't actually believe your going to have a baby until it's all curled up in your arms. It's far more likely that everything will ok at your scan. Keep busy and look after yourself xxx

ControlGeek - I'd probably have taken your username, had I thought of it. Wink And five years seemed like hard work. You have my admiration for sticking at it that long. I'm a scientist, and I'm "academically" aware that we're now into a bog standard pregnancy (as far as I know). It's just hard to believe isn't it? Keep me posted about how you go. The IVF calculators tell us we're she's due on March 2nd...

HM155 are you finding the inevitable paranoia any easier now? I really do hope it gets easier...

Can't believe I'm describing us as pregnant. Never thought we'd get this far, and I'm an allegedly rock hard hairy biker type. The IVF working is one thing. Feeling the urge to get in there with an inspection lamp to check up is utterly shocking. Hmm
