signed off work with suspected 'spd'

I feel like a major let down at the mo! I was signed off for four weeks with suspected spd, if the painkillers don't help and it doesn't ease in that time my doctor has said not to expect to be at work any time soon as he will refer me to physio and as my work is pretty active - on feet and walking constantly for 9-12hours a day.. it was agonising.

What concerns me is that since handing my note in, no one, not even management have contacted me to see if I'm ok or if I know when ill be back. Which makes me think either they're really pissed with me oraren't bothered if I'm back soon or not.

I'm worried about what they'll think if I'm signed off for another month or so :(

Anyone else had this spd? And can't work because of it? I'm only 13 weeks pregnant!

I have suspected SPD, but as I work in an office, I don't have a reason to be signed off with it. I took me a while to get refered to my Physio, who just took me through exercises of how to handle myself and move etc. They earlier they start, the easier it can make it in early pregnancy. In the last appointment, I was given a support band.

I was signed off for 2 weeks with anxiety, and am now back on a phased return of half days only for the next 2 weeks - (one week done). Your employer may well be annoyed, but as you are pregnant, you are a protected employee and there is nothing that they can do or say to you. I was dreading telling me work, as at one point doctor wanted to sign me off til my maternity starts which at the mo is December (due 23.12)

SPD is horrid, and a friend of mine had some real issues with it. In my opinion doctors don't sign you off for nothing, relax, and keep calm - if only I could take my own advice.

Take Care xxx

It is a stressful place to work, iv come home in tears more than once, that mixed with this agonising pain is the reason the doctor signed me off for 4 weeks. When I rang and spoke to my manager he basically told me doctors don't sign peopleoff willy nilly and not to apologize, I obviously need it off and that they had seen me struggling. I just thought I might of heard from them and I'm worried I'll have to say iv got to have another 4 weeks off because I hate letting people down, especially work, I never have days off and all of a sudden I'm having big chunks of time off.

Thank you for your advice, I'm trying to relax but getting fed up with not being able to walk and worrying about what people are thinking of me x

You not hearing from them is a good thing I think. From their point of view they have to be very careful not to be seen as harassing you or pressurising you to come back.

Believe your manager and rest (or do whatever the doctor as said) at home.

I agree with Lottie. Stop feeling guilty about something that isn't in any way your fault and take it easy.

I was signed off for over 2 mths with spd. And worked in an office. I couldn't get out of bed without being in agony never mind get to work. Sitting was agony, lying was agony and everything in between.

I had physio and also given a support belt which really helped.

Don't feel bad about it these things happen and your work just need to accomodate that x

OP, have a look at this thread - there are some useful tips about SPD, and also a long post from me about the osteopathic manoeuvre that saved me from ongoing SPD. It is so good, I can't tell you - I'd go from agonising can-barely-move-one-leg-in-front-of-the-other to walking normally. :)

i woudnt worry about your employer, the reason they are probably not contacting you is because they dont want to be seen as harrassing you if you are off sick. When you handed your sick note in, did it include an estimated return to work date so they already know when you will be back? I work in HR, and if someone has been signed off sick they will hold a return to work meeting with you when you return to make sure you are fit for work and if they need to make any arrangements to accomodate you.

Its down to your work to arrange cover, this is not your problem. You are pregnant and need to look after yourself, first and foremost this is the most important thing. Your employer is probably keeping their distance whilst you are off and will do all they can to support you at work when you are fit to return.
