Hi. I'm about 5 - 6 weeks pg and yesterday I was accidentally kicked very hard in the stomach by 3 year old DD as she was coming down a water slide. It was very painful for a while but ok after a minute or 2. I tried to put it out of my mind but now I'm worried. My sickness which was noticeable but not awful has disappeared and I have a slight ache much lower down. There hasn't been any bleeding. The midwives here aren't answering their phone, what are the chances that some damage has been caused to the baby and how could I find out? I cant wait another 6 weeks with this worry!

Can you go to your local ed? They can possibly send you to their early pg/maternity unit, who could give you a scan (trans vaginal at your stage).

I don't know if there could have been damage or not, unfortunately I suppose it's possible.

Either ed or your gp, I'd say to put your mind at ease. Flowers

I think at that gestation the baby/foetus will still be deep inside the pelvis, it's only around 12 weeks I think that it comes forward. I imagine it'll be fine but of course, keep trying to get through to the midwives to put your mind at rest.

I was told by my midwife that I could ski until 12 weeks as the baby is protected by the pelvis. Do try your GP/midwife/antenatal team in hospital for reassurance, but I would imagine all will be fine Thanks

I'll keep trying the midwives. Thanks for the quick responses.

I think there is basically very little chance indeed that the pregnancy has been compromised by the kick. As others have said everything is well tucked away - think how much water you have to drink for the 12 week scan to push the uterus up out of the pelvis.
You may still miscarry - many pregnancies end this way - but if you do then it will be because it was going to happen anyway and not because of this action.

Your embryo is so tiny and far inside your pelvis and organs, to be damaged you'd have to have broken a bone or ruptured something. Try not to worry.

Losses due to trauma are very rare and by trauma they mean things like massive car accidents where the mum is badly hurt.

DinoSnores · 21/08/2014 14:50

It would be a massively rare event for this to have any effect. As others have said, the baby is absolutely tiny and well protected deep down in a well padded uterus.

There is practically nothing you can do to cause or prevent a miscarriage, so in the very sad event that something does happen here, it really is not going to be due to this.

Hope that this is reassuring and that all is well.

That is reassuring thank you all x

So i need help!!! I am six weeks pregnant and i am suppose to spar tomorrow (for those who don’t know what that is, fight with boxing gloves with another person in a ring) and i read that online that early in pregnancy is risky to do that so I don’t know. Should i spar tomorrow or not? I don’t want to hurt my baby..

physicskate · 25/03/2021 06:58

@Thedoglover - I wouldn't. Not because of likely injury to the embryo, but because you're more prone to injury yourself during pregnancy because your ligaments start to relax for some people at an early gestation.

SunnySideUp2020 · 25/03/2021 06:59

@Thedoglover i wouldn't spar no...
But then again i also wouldn't do it not pregnant 😬
