Hi, I'm 21 weeks today and at a visit to the consultant 2 wks ago I was told I may need a stitch at some point as I've had previous instrumentation on my cervix following a calposcopy.

I've been put under her care and advised that I am going to have to go and see her every 3 weeks to see how things are going...cervix wise!

At my 20wk scan the sonographer said all looked normal with my cervix although my bladdeer was underfull (oops, couldn't wait for the loo) and it was hard to check the legnth of my cervix for sure.

Is a check every 3wks going to be sufficient to check for incompetance??

Bit gross but I've also been getting a lot of watery discarge...normal? Aggghhh!

Sorry for ultra long post ladies!

hi, im 22+3days pregnant i had a stitch put in at 14wks due to crevics already openin due to comb biopsy and a loop, sine the stitch i was on bed rest for first two wks and see my doc and consultant fortnightly, im concerned that since the stitch i have had no examination of the cervics to check its not gettin weeker? ive spoke to my consultant about this and im under the impression if the bleeding has stopped or no pain then they presume that alls well. Im havin steriod injections for babys lungs at 24wks its all very worrying as ive read so many scary stories on here rather than positve one. ry not to worry to much xx
im def with u on the watery discharge!! must be down to the stitch. if you av any concerns speak to ur doc mine as been brill and we listen to babys heart beat every other week, its so reasuring and really nice to hear xxxxxxxxx if u need to chat to some one inur situation chat to me! lol xxxxxxxxtake care

To assess your cervix properly you need to have a vaginal ultrasound and your bladder needs to be completely empty. They should measure it and check for funnelling every fortnight at least.
They don't usually put a stitch in after 24 weeks though.
I had a 22 week normal scan and asked about my cervix and was told all was normal, but i lost my baby a week after this. My recent pregnancy however i had cervical scans every fortnight and funneling and shortening was seen at 23 weeks, i had a stitch put in straight away and i went to term and had a lovely baby boy now 13 weeks

watery discharge could be normal, but i would go for a swab to check for infection as infection can cause preterm labour which is more likely to happen if your cervix is short/weak.
good luck with it, your nearly at 24 weeks which is the biggest milestone.

Hi there, thanks for your messages... Went to see the consultant yesterday... It was a different one who was not concerned at all about the legnth of my cervix. He went on to mention that had he seen me first he wouldn't have put me under consultant care at all...aggghhh! I'm still having an internal scan on 18/10 - by which point it will too late for a stitch anyway. Must admit he put my mind at rest to start of with but now I'm just wondering if he's a bit pants! On a different note, I now have a UTI and some antibiotics that are going to aggrivate my thrush - hoorah!!!

Just had cervical stitch at 22wks due to cervix shortening and absolutely terrified, lost my daughter at 22weeks last year and feel like i can't sneeze without phoning the doctor first!
Please if they is anyone out there who has some advice or been through a similar experience i would really appreciated it! Driving myself crazy and my lovely other half.
Many thanks
Vicky

I had a stitch done with my second and third - had never lost a baby but had had a colcoscopy many years ago and was told that my cervix was 'incompetent' by the doctor who did a hysteroscopy after I had my first (I had problems conceiving again, hence investigations).

I went full term with both second and third babies, despite my cervix being less than 2cm on vaginal ultrasound at 11 weeks with my third....... Can't remember being told if there was any funnelling.

Not sure I ever needed a stitch in the first place. I don't think my cervix is 'actually incompetent', just a bit capricious!

I had a LEEP and colposcopy about two months before I fell pg, I have mentioned it to the mw's and consultant (I'm under them for otehr complications) and although was told at the very beginning I may need a stitch they hadn;t checked my cervix until about 5weeks ago when I had a kind of show. (I'm 36weeks now btw).

Thanks for responding to my message, my cervix measurement is 1cm but i'm off to the consultant on fri to ask if they still keep measuring?
Did you have to have antibiotics and how did you avoid infection?
Sorry to keep asking questions just need to relax and take it week by week, its a great comfort knowing that you can go full term after you have had " the stitch'!
Thanks for your time vicky
