I am in a state of shock, having turned 40 a few weeks ago I have just discovered I am 8 weeks pregnant. I have one child who is 10 years old and I have forgotten everything about pregnancy and babies. My brain is preoccupied with my age and all that can go wrong, I almost don't want to buy into this pregnancy. If possible my intention is to wait until my 20 week scan before telling people.

Can you guys share you're knowledge and experience with me. Foods I should avoid, things I should be doing, best buys for baby that you wouldn't be without, books I should maybe read to bring me up to speed. Everything looks so much more complicated these days, with my last child I just walked into a shop and bought the best value travel system and cot I could get, the choice now is immense and it have no idea where to start. Any positive stories from older mums would also be most welcome.

I'm 40, first baby though so can't talk about difference between being 30 and 40. Have three friends also 40 (+) who are pregnant. We've all had relatively easy pregnancies - I was surprised when I went to NCT just how many of the others in their early 30s were crippled by various issues, I was the only one who could get up and down from the floor without huffing and puffing like an old man. So, don't worry too much about that side of things - just keep active as much as you can.

I haven't got any advice about the other stuff, there is so much info out there that you just need to commit some time to Google. Loads of info on here too if you use the search facility.

On books to read I've found "Expecting Better" to be good statistics based information on pregnancy including what to avoid eating and why. I prefered that to just a list of forbidden foods.
