Pre-eclampsia: how quickly can it happen?

Hello - after a very smooth pregnancy I'm now 33 weeks and feeling RUBBISH. I've left a message with midwife today cos I cant tell what is a problem and what just normal part of being pregnant. Waiting to hear back, meanwhile am obsessing about pre-eclampsia.

I had a midwife appointment last week and my urine test and blood pressure was fine. Does anyone know whether that makes it unlikely that I would develop pre-eclampsia 10 days later?

I'm currently getting about 4 hours sleep every night which might account for feeling crap, terrible heartburn that wont be relieved by zantac etc, diarrhea every day, feel hot, wobbly and nauseous.

I rang doctors for an appointment but they are only taking emergencies - dont think I qualify.

Any advice or experiences appreciated

Very quickly. I delivered my son at 32+4. I saw a gp at 32+0 for an ear infection. Due to being pregnant they checked blood pressure and urine and all was fine. Then saw midwife at 32+3 and was diagnosed with pre eclampsia, blue lighted to hospital due to severity and he was deliered 19 hours later.

Keep an eye out for symptoms but be prepared it may come on with no symptoms x

If your pregnant and concerned you can get an emergency appointment at gp (in my experience any - they say sorry theres no appointment and i say but im pregnant and this is worrying me and suddenly theres a choice of appointment times).

Sorry i dont know about preeclampsia.

Thanks MrsGiraffe - that must have been awful, did you have symptoms? Sounds like you didn't.

kite none at all other than a headache but summer 2008 was a scorcher so blamed it on that.

Pre eclamlsia is not an illness to be messed with, see a GP on an emergency appointment if your at all worried!

Very quickly! I was feeling rough for a few weeks but no measurable symptoms showed. Then at 31+1 BP was sky high and had protein in urine. Baby delivered a few days later and I was scarily ill also. I knew something wasn't right but just kept being told I was 'just pregnant'! Kept going back to the doc/mw and thank god I did. If your GP won't see you then call labour ward. Better to be over cautious. X
