Hello ladies,
So...for the past two days I've had absolutely awful pain on the lower left hand side of my back...at first lying on my left side stopped the pain but now it makes no difference.
I can barely walk or sit without awful pain Sad
I'm 23+5- could this be a trapped nerve or maybe even a kidney infection?

Oh how horrible Hmm it sounds like it could be sciatica - I had it when pregnant with both dc and it was agony however 2nd time round I went to the doc and got a physio referral which was soooo helpful and really made a difference. Call the doctor tomorrow and try to get seen by the physiotherapist

I'll be ringing the dr first thing tomorrow, cursing myself for not calling today but I thought it might go away Sad
Thanks for the suggestions, sciatica seems very possible. If it gets worse I might try the Walk-In-Centre (does every city have one of these? Not sure if it's just us) but I'm worried I'll just get sent to maternity to be safe and I know that'd do no good Sad

Sounds like my sciatica. Feels like a knife through your bottom? Sometimes shoots into leg? Ring your midwife as she can refer you to physio (at least mine has) but there may be a bit of a wait. I've discovered (from research and tips on here) that sitting for long periods makes it worse - lying down eases it. Walking slowly does ease it but turning or standing with weight unbalanced I.e. Leaning on one foot makes it worse. Ice packs and paracetamol also good although I think your Gp can prescribe stronger stuff if necessary. Walk-in might not be able to if it is nurse-led as they need a doc to prescribe stronger stuff for pregnant ladies I ink. Ice is good as it eases inflammation and you can't have anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen. I thought I was destined for this to get worse and worse but rest has helped. Bending down to pick things up made it worse as well is have got better at letting DP do that. Hope it gets better - mine comes in fits and starts - clearing a room and sitting in the car for an extended period made it much worse, doing very little on holiday has made it better. Good luck.

OP I've had a kidney infection and whilst I agree it sounds like sciatica you want to get the infection ruled out as I believe in second trimester they can hurt the baby.

An out of hours GP can do this. It's a simple urine sample test they do right in front of you. I'd get on the phone, request an immediate appt tonight, rule that out. And if it is a KI, the antibiotics take a couple of days to kick in, so you don't want to leave it.

Osteopath is also worth a try.

Agree with above that you need to rule out kidney infection - make sure you're drinking lots of water and get you urine dipsticked ASAP x

definitely rule out a kidney infection or kidney stone. if you feel feverish, with a kidney infection, it can be relatively serious and requires immediate treatment. if the pain comes in waves I would suspect kidney trouble.
sciatic pain, pelvic pain etc can be helped with a trip to an osteopath, but rule out infection / stone / uti first.

only say all that as I had a kidney stone a fortnight ago, ended up dehydrated on a saline drip with IV pain relief, at 30 weeks.
