Quorn - Is it safe to eat?!

Hi all

I'm 34+2 and I had a Quorn beef burger for lunch today. I didn't think until afterwards whether they are actually safe to eat in pregnancy or not?!

I cooked it from frozen in the oven on high heat and then finished it off in the frying pan. I'm now worrying whether Quorn is OK to eat and whether I could have harmed baby by not cooking it well enough?

I'm usually so careful with food but didn't worry too much due to the fact that it's not actually meat!

Thanks in advance x

It's very much totally fine. Don't worry Wink

CoolCat2014 · 12/08/2014 17:11

It will be fine, nothing in it that could make you ill

MultipleMama · 12/08/2014 17:18

I ate quorn all the way through my pregnancy (vegetarian). It's fine :)

Thank you ladies Smile

I was worried about the way I cooked it and wondering whether it was cooked enough but I think I actually overcooked it as it was a bit dry and straw-like lol.

Good to know it's safe for baby though, that's all I care about!

I think it's near impossible to undercook it!

I should think you fuckin annihilated it nit cooked it! Not much doubt of poisoning I'd think.

pinkyredrose · 13/08/2014 01:40

Why ON EARTH would quorn not be OK to eat even if it was meat, cooked through in burger form?

Go onto the NHS website and look up their food guide for pregnancy. You can eat most things.
If you find yourself this worried print it out and keep it in your handbag.
www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx#close
Click on each WORD in the contents... many you can eat but need to be cooked. Don't just refuse to eat them if you like them and it says they are OK cooked! :)

Thanks squizita - I was having a bit of a neurotic moment and can see now that I panicked for no reason!

As I said I was more concerned that I hadn't cooked it thoroughly enough.

Quorn is a Vegetarian food and labelled so. Why would a vegeterian product have meat in... Hmm

Glad you got it sorted though! :)

Why are you so aggressive about this and seriously the least of anyone’s worries is if they are educated in quorn. I wondered the same thing because it’s never made me ill but it doesn’t suit everyone and wondered if pregnancy would change me being able to eat it and keeping it down.
