reusable/washable sanitary pads?

So I believe I will bleed forever after the birth.

Can anyone recommend a good type/brand of washable pads that would be suitable?

I'm planning on using cloth nappies anyway so figure I can just chuck pads in the wash with them. Right?

Try etsy. I got a load from there and had a few custom sizes made. I only really need them for about 2 days though.

I just bought some from t j cloth nappies they seemed reasonably priced. Haven't used them before but I use cloth nappies for my toddler so was just going to wash them with those.

Last time I bled heavily for two days and then it was like a period for about 2-3 weeks. So not always a blood bath. Really hated those stinky disposable pads though.

Cheeky Mama do maternity pads as well as normal sanitary pads. I've only used regular reusable pads (not maternity ones as they were only launched this year) but found them really comfy. I put them in a cold soak then put in with oth nappies (cold rinse, prewash/wash at 60/extra rinse ). They also do fab washable wipes!

I always stick my washable panty liners in with a nappy wash. I got them from here: www.earthwisegirls.co.uk/reusable-sanitary-towels-c-1.html
I found the angel padz more expensive but a nicer fit and better made.

Based on doing a load of washing every other day... How many postpartum/regular pads will I require?

I only bled heavily for less than a week. It took me three days to get home from hospital, the next day I was diagnosed with an infection downstairs and was changing my pads hourly.

So ime you need 40-60 and will be on normal sized San wear after 2-3 wears. Plus the infection risk (unless c sec you are very likely to have open cuts in contact with the pad).

Basically I suspect it isn't worth it. Financially or environmentally.

I wasn't going to use them for the first few heavy days, but for the next couple of weeks which last time were quite manageable. Might be different this time of course! I've only bought ten but I do regular nappy washes anyway. I was also going to keep some for end of periods at a later date.

I don't think it's financially worth it but just wanted to treat myself to something more comfortable!

Charlie Banana, but then I use them as my regular sanitary wear too.

I have 12 but I bought a "starter" pack from etsy, as I never seemed to bleed much or for long, it was like a slightly heavy period that lasted only 2-3 days, and that was it. I've never bled heavy or long at all which concerned me at first because I expected a lot but my Gyn wasn't worried.

The only other time I ever use my pads is when I'm on a heavy day of my period and my mooncup isn't enough so there wasn't need to buy loads of them... and it's been over 4 years since I've had a period though...

I bled for weeks. It was ridiculous. I needed something a bit more hard core for the first couple of days, then I switched to my imse vimse pads. And by hard core, I mean giant nappy size pads, two at a time and still leaking. Christ I hate lochia.

Personally I would agree not to wash with nappies in case you have an infection which you wouldn't know you had immediately so some pads might have the infected bugs on them. I have recurrent thrush and I'm washing my panty liners separately till I can be sure it clears as I don't want to pass it on to the family through the washing.
