Sunbathing in early pregnancy

So I am going on holiday next week and I will be in my sixth week of pregnancy. I was planning on wearing a high factor sunscreen, staying hydrated and not baking in the sun for hours on end, maybe just an hour or so a day with regular pool trips. Thing is, google is not my friend today and has alerted me to research that suggests that UV exposure breaks down folic acid, which is so important in early pregnancy. Am I going to have to spend a week in my hotel room? Was hoping to get out in the sun a little bit each day. Thanks x

Ignore Google! Sunlight gives you vitamin d, makes you feel good and if you avoid midday sun and wear suncream etc should be perfectly safe. You may burn more easily than normal so treat yourself a bit more carefully than normal.

You'll be fine - women who live in hot countries don't spend 9 months of pregnancy indoors!

Be careful - sun exposure in pregnancy can create brown marks on your skin which never fade. Ive a small one on my face Sad and I was pregnant from sept to may so hardly a lot of sun!

Cant remember technical term but we were warned by midwives and Drs here (France)

The heat may make any sickness seem worse though I know it did for me!

Its called chloasma (pregnancy mask)

Thanks ladies for your swift responses. I'm not prone to cholasma but I plan on wearing a high factor and staying out of the strong sun. Was just going to sunbathe later in the day after around 3:00. Xxx

You'll be fine, it's only a week, just be sensible.

It isn't dangerous but as PP have said your skin can become more sensitive and I agree, you can feel rough when it's warm!
I use high factor baby/kids sun cream also because regular makes me rash when pregnant.
