Bump measuring big

Hi, I am 32 weeks with my first baby and just been measured as 36.
Anybody else had a growth assessment?
She said it could be that baby is large or that I have too much fluid. A bit worried that it could be the latter as when I googled it says it could mean a problem with baby.
Got to wait until Monday for the assessment.

Try not to panic. I had one big measurement but then next was smaller (for dates) so didn't even get to the growth scan stage. I don't think tape measure readings are very reliable.

Tape measuring is really unreliable, I don't even know why they bother! I was told I was measuring big, got me all panicked and SIL was told measuring small and when they both arrived within days of each other at 38/39 weeks they weighed the same average weight.

My friend also measured big and she did have a big baby (10lb 4oz) but it wasn't an issue, normal delivery and healthy baby.

If they think it is something to worry about they'll send you for a growth scan. Which is reassuring and also lovely to get an extra peek at baby before he/she arrives

I was 6cm(ie 6 weeks) big throughout. Growth scan suggested 95th centile baby...

Baby was and remains 50th centile... The extra girth? Who knows!

I measured bang on or 1cm under with my daughter, she was a whopper at over 10lb, but the delivery was ok. I think you have to take the measurements with a pinch of salt.
Speak to your m/w or whoever does the assessment Monday about the potentials of extra fluid etc. Google is not always your friend

I'm measuring five weeks big. I'm 30 weeks and I also feel anxious about this as I do feel very heavily pregnant and people believe I'm due any day. My midwife has referred me for a GTT to test for gestational diabetes has your midwife mentioned this? However I am confused as to why I'm having it done rather than a scan etc as I'm not overweight and don't have diabetes in the family but apparently can mean a big baby

I had the gtt at 24 weeks and came back neg. anyone can get it even if it's not in the family.

Because a change is important. It is a rough measurement but measuring it throughout pregnancy should give an indication that further investigation is needed.

Measuring big might be because of polyhydramnios (too much fluid) and/or macrosomia (a big baby), both of which can be due to gestational diabetes, which can happen to anyone. I'd hope that your midwife is also arranging a growth scan to see what is happening as well as a GTT.

Anyway, my own experience of measuring big was because of polyhydramnios. Growth scans also suggested that the baby was going to be big, although thankfully for me, she was 'only' 9lbs2. (Left me with the tiniest of grazes only!) I had a GTT, which was normal, and no cause was found for the polyhydramnios. Because of the concern with a big baby and polyhydramnios, I was induced at 39 weeks but it was all very uncomplicated.
