Has anyone tried this to turn a breech?
My midwife told me about it this morning, I've booked it for Monday morning when I'll be 36+5, the guy at the clinic said it was last chance as baby will be too big if left any longer. I've never heard of it before & can't help but think it's crazy! BUT, I'll try anything to avoid ECV.
Babbas been frank breech since 20 week scan, & rarely moves, on top of my positioning myself on all 4's I think all the encouragement she can get to turn must be worth it right?!

I did. And hanging upside down, being on all fours, hypnotherapy and eventually an ECV. Tried everything to get my baby to turn. She didn't (footling) so ended up with a c section.

I figured I would try everything as at least I had tried IYSWIM. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the reply, sorry it didn't work :-( was the ECV agony? I'm dreading it.

You can refuse it. A friend had it last week, they agreed that they would try three times, after the first time she stopped them because it hurt too much. She had bruises.

Mine is also breech (almost 33 weeks) - it's been breech since 20 weeks too. I know it can move, and sometimes I feel as if it is moving/has moved, but then by the next scan, it's breech again. I have scans every 4 weeks for growth issues, so at least when I go in again at 36 weeks I'll still have a chance for moxibustion.

Someone also suggested going to see an osteopath - one individual in particular, but there might be others in other places I guess. I don't know what it is that they do - just open up for more space for moving. Presumably osteo plus inversion when you get home!

Yes, for me, the ECV was agony - far worse than labour in fact. I actually asked them to stop as I was on the verge of passing out due to the pain and my bp and pulse went sky high. Regretted that I gave up, but despite the section I had a beautiful girl at the end of it. Well she's just presented me with a snail from the garden but you get my drift Grin

I don't want an ECV but was hoping to try anything to avoid a c section, didn't know if just being scared about the pain was a good enough excuse to avoid one. Vaginal birth of a breech makes me nervous also.

smile see I thought it would be agony! well I know a section isn't the worse thing in the world as long as baby is here safely.
I'm being very precious as it's my first time! I hope my little lady likes snails, how cute!

As far as I can tell, if an ECV is going to work 'permanently', it'll be easy and uncomfortable rather than painful. If there's room to move and it's not engaged, then yep.. otherwise, nope.

I asked the sonographer at least week's scan (ex midwife) about inversion etc, and she did a very sceptical face and said 'Do you really think that works?' - well, no I have no idea, that's why I'm asking. She also knew someone who worked in the ECV department, who said that there is something like an 80% chance of it not working, and even if it does, 60% go breech again.

The planned section was actually fine and recovery really quick (better than my vb - was breech but turned himself). Wasn't recommended that I try for a breech delivery due to her footling position and previous issues with the first birth. Since had another baby - also breech (extended) but an emergency section as v impatient!

Breech babies are clearly my forte! There will be no fourth Grin

I had it, acupuncture on my little toes (don't!) and was another one who spent weeks on all fours.

It didn't work for me but I had it at 37 weeks so that may have made a difference. DD had also been bum down since her 20 week scan and never moved so I had a c-section which was perfectly fine. She's always been stubborn!

I had additional complications so wasn't even offered an ECV. Apparantly they rarely work.

I do understand, I was gutted at the time. All my birth plans were out of the window but now, I really don't mind at all. The c-section experience was so positive and I recovered quickly. I had to have another with my second pregnancy and wasn't upset in the slightest.

Good luck, I hope she turns for you and you get the birth you want.
