Can baby kicks be a sign of distress?

Hi, I'm hoping I'm worrying over nothing but I was wondering if sometimes when the baby kicks they could be indicating that they aren't happy with something or are in distress?

I'm 31 weeks, I started feeling the baby move at 16 weeks and my LO is extremely active, always has been. however, certain positions make him even move active. When I lean back in bed, is a particular active point. I'm now wondering if maybe the baby doesn't like it when I lean back and that's why I feel more kicking?

Am I being stupid or is there any truth in this?

Don't know if it's true but I always feel like my baby kicks more if I squash him. So I knew when I could no longer lay on my front because he kicked loads. I figure what would I do if I was a baby and I was squashed, I'd kick! I think 'distress' is a strong word to use, maybe uncomfortable would be better?

It is more likely to be the dimensions of your body mean he's kicking something sensitive. There are patches of my belly where I feel then see kicks, and others where I see them before feeling them!
I agree with Honey they will let you know if you wake them up or make them move (which is why an ice cold drink works wonders if you're anxious and baby is napping... does no harm but wakes them up!). Mine moves quite a lot during yoga or tmi when I go to the toilet for a number 2... must be the gurgling/movement inside me.

For general advice on kicking/movement safety, this website is best (neither too lax nor scaremongering): countthekicks.org.uk/mums/
