Measuring 5 weeks ahead/gestational diabetes

I posted a couple of weeks ago about being concerned regarding the size of my bump after getting a lot of comments.

I finally saw the midwife today after three months and I am measuring 5 weeks ahead. She has booked me in for a test for gestational diabetes.

I'm really quite concerned 5 weeks ahead seems an awful lot. I knew my bump was big but I expected it to all be in my mind! I'm not overweight that I'm aware of! What does gestational diabetes mean for me and the baby? The midwife said that it would just mean I would have to go back to consultant led care. If I continue to measure this far ahead will they still leave me until my due date!?

Has anyone any experience of this ?
Thanks

Hi I was in a very similar situation with my second pregnancy. I was measuring 4cms ahead and was sent for a scan first which showed I had polyhydramnious (excess waters) this is often a symptom of gd so was offered a gtt. It came back positive and I was put under consultant led care and put onto a special diet which was no sugar and limited carbs.
I saw the consultant and his team weekly, I was diagnosed at 35 weeks so I'm sure someone with a bit more experience will be along soon.
In most areas you will be offered/ advised to have an induction at 38 weeks this is due to various reasons but the main one is that the placenta of gd mums is not as reliable and more likely to fail towards the end of pregnancy, however it's not compulsory and there are other options available such as daily monitoring
I was induced as it wasn't a risk wanted to take and daily monitoring with a 4 yr old would have been a pain plus I'd had enough by then!
In regards to measuring big gd causes two things either excess waters or a big baby if you test positive you will be closely monitored for these things but you can have a gd pregnancy and have neither of these everyone is different.
There is a gd support thread on here if you have a search I'm sure they will be able to offer you lots of advice.
Good luck I hope you don't have it but if you do it's not the end of the world:)

Thank you'd or your reply that's really helpful.
It's two weeks until the test and then I don't know how long until the results which is annoying as I want to do something to help now if I can. They haven't referred me for a scan or anything like that, I've never seen the same midwife more than once but this lady told me she thinks it's all baby rather than fluid.

I'm going to make sure I eat no sweets or chocolate or similar and try and do some more ante natal yoga and Pilates in the mean time.

I'll try and find the GD group to have a scan though, thanks
