Not talking about trimming my lady garden unless I should be asking about trimming my lady garden? Blush
A few people have said take some paracetamol half an hour before to take any pain away?
Am I to expect bleeding of some sort? Should I take a pad to put on afterwards before I leave the doctors.. It's about a 10minute walk away from home.
Usually I wear a short dress /long top and leggings, so my belly is readily available. Is it going to be annoying to get my leggings off, (do they come right off or just pull down?)... should I wear a maxi dress? then I can use it as a tent and pretend nothing is happening
As you can tell this will be the first time I'll have to have my bits on display for anyone other than DH. Think I'm more nervous about this than childbirth!
Any advice will be lovely Smile

I have had 3 s&s now - 2 by my mw and one by a Dr. Both occasions they give you a sheet to protect your dignity and you position your legs like a smear test. I had leggings/jeans on on each occasion and thought well they've seen it all before. On each occasion they left the room/cubicle so I could undress and cover myself. The first was uncomfortable but not painful. I was 1cm and o/s was open and mid. Second was painful. The dr said "if this doesn't feel uncomfortable and sore then it's not doing its job" The procedure hurt and I felt sore inside afterwards but more like period cramps. The procedure itself was the painful part. My mw did my third one and again was uncomfortable and a little sore but nothing compared to the second. I put a pad on after each but didn't bleed. I have been losing my plug for about a week and find that although I wear a pad, very little stains the pad as it is mainly removed when I wipe.

Yes take some paracetamol, and a pad, if wearing leggings take them and pants right off, if wearing maxi dress take pants off. Knees up, feet flat on bed then knees open, so kind of in a froggie legs position.

Midwife will tell you what to do. If it is uncomfortable or painful, or you want it to stop, tell the midwife. just because you have agreed to it or started it doesn't mean you can't change your mind. If midwife doesn't stop or says, oh I'm nearly finished but you want it to stop, then say it again but louder. ( not saying your midwife will do this at all).

Not saying it will be painful or anything, think it really depends, have heard some people say they are and Sone people say they were fine.

Thanks mrsnlwSmile
I've not had a smear yet, next year i'll be old enough and assume I won't be too bothered about it as I would have had a baby by then, hopefully, at this rate I feel like I'll be pregnant forever!
Sorry, what's o/s?

Thanks bingbong.
I'm really not sure what to expect, I've heard they're always uncomfortable and usually painful, so don't know at what point I should say no it hurts too much Confused.
Part of me thinks don't even bother having it done, but then surely this is better than an induction if it works.
Hmmm.

See how you feel on the moment. I think I depends on loads of stuff as to how painful it is. I had one ( that did bugger all) that was ok, just felt really weird rather than painful. Are you overdue? You don't have to agree to an induction either, but do your own research!

Must be your first of no one else has seen your bits! Boy or girl? Guess you are very excited....!

Hobby2014 · 04/08/2014 16:13

Yeah am 40+4 today, tomorrow sweep then Tuesday after induction. I just want baby here now, we found out I was pregnant on nov 24th. It's gone on toooooo long!
First baby, and a surprise. It's been really hard not finding out, I've so wanted to but it'll be so worth it I think.

The surprise will be amazing, don't be too frustrated, first ones often late. Do your research on induction, you can always delay it by a few days if you like and have expectant monitoring, although it understand that 'I want this baby now feeling!'

Had one this morning, wish I took some paracetamol!! I found it slightly painful and yelped!! (or else I'm just a pussy!!) a couple of hours later very slight bleeding....now hoping something else will happen!! best of luck!!! xx

Just wear a panty liner or sanitary towel for after, its uncomfortable but not sore. they give you a sheet to cover up yourself and I prefer wearing a skirt because it flipping hard bending over to get your bottom half undressed in the tiny room.

RoseberryTopping · 04/08/2014 17:58

Wear a dress or skirt if you can. You'd think it'd be common sense that they give a sheet of tissue/towel to cover yourself but on the 2 I had I was out in full glory. Even though they were going up there anyway it was still quite embarrassing.

Good luck! IME they don't work, but I think this is totally dependant on the woman as I've read lots about them working within a few hours. Not painful as such but not something you enjoy either!

Thanks everyone.
Really not looking forward to it at all. Just sooooo hoping it does something. This time tomorrow I could be in labour or even have a baby! Smile
Or it does absolutely nothing and will be induced
