Weight gain worry at 35 weeks...

whiteblossom · 03/08/2014 09:25

I was hoping to keep my weight gain to two stone...I hit that today and Ive 5 weeks left (assuming baby arrives at 40 weeks). At this rate Ill have gained an extra 10lbs by then! Im always bloody hungry.

Im finding anything above two stone difficult to deal with mentally.

Can someone reassure me that it will magically fall off afterwards or that I wont put anymore on. (I promise to cut out the cake!)

Im finding it so depressing. I worked very hard to lose weight and Ive kept it off and was happy with myself, I cant face having that challenge again with a new baby. I have a mental block at two stone- no more.

almost a stone will be baby, placenta, etc.

be kind to yourself, it'll come off!

mssleepyhead · 03/08/2014 09:59

I wanted to keep my weight gain to 2 stone too but by around the same time had already out that on. I was very worried, but I have to say in the last 3 weeks (now 37) I haven't put much on at all. Was worried, but the books say it's normal for weight gain to slow done at the end. So don't worry - it might not be a complete disaster : )

WiggleGinger · 03/08/2014 10:05

Please don't fret. I found last time towards the end it really slowed down! As PP said most of the 'weight' is baby and placenta etc, so you could easily reduce your 'gain' by 1 stone.

squizita · 03/08/2014 10:07

Yeah I was going to say... a big chunk of the weight will be baby, placenta, fluid.
Some will be 'you' but they also say most women lose it naturally at the rate they put it on after birth. Very inaccurate but thinking of all my mum friends I see daily, most looked the same weight as before after a few months or so, I guess by normal sensible eating and the exercise of parenting!

bumpiesonamission · 03/08/2014 10:15

I put on 3stone but within 2weeks of birth had lost 2stone. I put on a lot of water and my placenta was 7lbs!!!!! Baby was 6lb 4oz and I lost 2pints blood (emcs).

It'll come off, if you've lost it before you'll loose it again. Plus you baby needs that fat for feeding in the early days!

whiteblossom · 03/08/2014 10:15

I know that a stone of weight will be baby and fluid and placenta, I have no problem with a stone left to lose but anything over that freaks me out. I have some clothes a size bigger than pre pg so a one stone gain is fine but anymore and Im stuffed! Ive also got a xmas party early December which I was really hoping to be back at pre pg weight/shape.

Im very glad to hear weight gain slows near the end!! I guess I need to stick rigidly to healthy stuff from now on.

Have I lost the plot??

ACM88 · 03/08/2014 10:32

You haven't lost the plot at all!

I panic every now and then, especially after third slice of buttery toast!! I'm just so hungry. I do the food shop so have decided to buy lots of dried cranberries and apricots as opposed to biscuits, croissants and tiramisu!!

squizita · 03/08/2014 10:34

I am due a week after you and was also thinking about Christmas and not feeling a whale.

One word: spanx. Wink

madamweasel · 03/08/2014 10:54

Don't worry, baby, placenta, amniotic fluid, and also an increase in your blood volume all add weight and it could well be more than a stone. I had DS in September 2 years ago and even though I didn't breastfeed at all I was back in prepregnancy size/weight at Xmas party in early December.

I am NOT a dieter, nor do I give a toss about celebs and getting back into shape - my body just did it by itself. The physical exertion of having a new baby, trying to keep up the cooking/cleaning and taking the baby for a walk in the pushchair up hill every day must have done it because I didn't try to exercise either (too bloody tired).

As long as once you've given birth you make sure you eat proper food and drink plenty of water, take the baby for a walk, I'm sure you'll be healthy and happy with your body, good luck.

Lozmatoz · 03/08/2014 11:11

Breastfeeding helps it fall off and pushing the pram everyday. Plus you'll never (almost never) sit down running around after a baby. I ended up slimmer after having my DS than before I got pregnant. Remember you NEED to put weight on too.

ohthegoats · 03/08/2014 11:52

I'm due end of September, and am aiming for 6th March for body back to normal. Going on a weekend to Centreparks with my entire family.. I figure that any weight ON will have taken 5 - 6 months to happen, so 5 - 6 months to get it off again is alright. I think you just need to be realistic and not spend too much time worrying about what anyone else is doing (celebrity or otherwise). My SIL was back in her size 6 jeans within a fortnight, but you know, I'm not her.

whiteblossom · 03/08/2014 11:58

ok you lovely lot have made me feel a bit better. I am batch cooking, healthy filling meals and I will (hopefully) be walking lots with the pushchair. There is hope! Thank you.

Dh has been and bought me grapes and melon to snack on, along with tuna salad. I just need to stay off the biscuits/cake/chocolate but I think the shock of the scales may have just been the push I needed.

I find cutting out chocolate/cake/biscuits/sweets when pregnant helps hugely. I fill up on fruit, veg, nuts and proper meals mainly. If desperate, yoghurt or milk help - that and taking vitamins. I was putting it on too fast, so cut out the cakes and have stayed the same for a while now.

cathpip · 03/08/2014 12:06

Seriously don't worry about the weight gain it does come off and most of it straight away without actually trying (and still eating cake!) I have gained 5 stone with both ds1 and dd, it came off within 6 months and I surpassed myself with ds2, I put on 6 stone :). He is 18 weeks old and have lost 5 stone already. Right now where's that cake!!!!!

Heatherbell1978 · 03/08/2014 15:11

Hi, I'm 38 weeks and haven't put on weight since 35 weeks! I too have been a bit worried about not wanting to go over 2/2.5 stone but got to 2 stone at 35 weeks and it hasn't budged since. In fact I lost a pound last week. I'm eating normally and my bump is still growing so it's all good. Hoping that it stays roughly the same for the next few weeks....

bumpiesonamission · 03/08/2014 17:16

Just wanted to write a little caution. I did put on a lot of weight towards the end but everyone is different.

Lucy955 · 03/08/2014 20:24

I lost 22lbs in the first 10 days after giving birth last time with no dieting as most of the weight was water. Hope that makes you feel better. Was back to prepregnancy weight a month later. I am not a skinny Minnie and usally have to watch what I eat. I think it hard to guess how you body will react/cope. I was eating my own weight in scotch eggs for some reason but breastfeeding helped me.

Ummmmgogo · 03/08/2014 22:23

I agree with what cathpip said. You will gain what you gain, there's nothing you can do about it!! I aimed for 2 stone but gained 4 and a bit. Then couldn't excerise for 6 weeks due to c-section. Then couldn't diet because breastfeeding made me hungry. Was still back in size 8 within a year. If you put even the smallest amount of effort in, it will drop off in no time. 2 stone is nothing, most of that is baby. You will be fine and you will look lovely at Xmas please enjoy the rest of your prgnancy and stop worrying. Xxx

whiteblossom · 04/08/2014 08:46

Thank you for you lovely support! Its amazing how much we can gain and lose. I think I just need to be careful from this point on. I plan to keep busy with batch cooking and organising things! Though to some degree I agree I will gain what I will gain.

I lost 21lbs within the first week after having DS. Loads of fluid retention. An extra 10lbs or so came off in the first few months without trying
And then when I was ready (not until 9months later) I did the 5:2 diet and got down to a stone lighter than pre-pregnancy!

squizita · 04/08/2014 12:23

To reassure people, I was wondering how much was baby/bump and how much was weight. Just had a check up at the hospital and found that LOADS of my weight is baby and waters... basically 'inside every fat person is a thin person waiting to get out' is quite literally true in my case!! A loooong little person with (within healthy range) a lot of placenta and water. I'm a small person, carrying a lot of bump.
