would doing regular pregnancy tests detect a mmc?

if I were to have a mmc before getting my scan would a pregnancy test show negative all of a sudden after getting lots of positive ones? i'm absolutely paranoid about the possibility of mmc and would quite happily do a test every day if I thought it would detect it before scan!

No, sorry. I got positive tests for ages, even after an ERPC. In any case, do you think testing every day would magically stop a MMC from happening?! I know it's hard, but stop stressing. Most MCs are random events and not down to anything you've done or could do. Breathe and take each day as it comes!

I don't think so as the HCG would still be in your body.

being someone who worried about this myself - DON'T. Honestly before my 12 weeks scan I took so many of them conception indicator pregnancy tests, all coming up different everytime, I went from 4 weeks pregnant to two weeks pregnant...etc. Got to my 12 week scan (well I had an 11 and 12 week scan because I was dated wrong, after the two scans I still worried! despite seeing a baby bouncing around. Then yesterday had my 16w (well I'm only 15w) midwife appointment, heard the heartbeat, my worries went away for like... 5 minutes! now back to worrying again. Nothing will ease your mind, and we can't control anything. Don't send yourself potty like me :)

Have you thought about paying for a private early scan to put your mind at rest?

snicklebump · 31/07/2014 14:48

thanks all. im considering an early scan at 8 and a half weeks (could do it from 7.5 but not sure if that's too early? still means 5 weeks between scans where things might change...).

I know im sounding so over the top about it. i don't have a history of miscarriage. im just...paranoid!

i know a test wouldn't stop a mmc but i cant bear the thought of finding out in a horrible sterile scanning place where youve got to walk past all the expectant mothers with bumps, in tears, knowing youre not actually pregnant anymore...

Its up to you what you do but myself I talked myself out of an early scan, because I knew it wouldn't set anything in stone. Although where my 11 and 12 week scans were in a brand new birthing centre, and packed out with people I had the same worry that I would have to walk past happy mums to be being told something was wrong. When I got there it was so different, yes a lot of pregnant people, some didn't look it at all, all very quiet keeping themselves to themselves, lots of people coming in for ultra sounds not pregnancy related. I'd convinced myself I was going to be the only sad person in a bouncing mothers to be place! nothing like it, just like any other docs surgery...etc :) if you're worrying like me without any previous issues (And I had bleeding, spotting, pains) then you'll only worry again after the early scan. We're just those types of people! :)

No- a MMC, the sac and placenta still grow because they haven't 'realised' there's a problem so you still get a positive test.

They are quite rare though.

If you are very worried a private viability scan after about 7 weeks can give more peace of mind.

I'm afraid not. I tested positive a week after my mmc.

I know it really does not help but it's best to put it out of your mind until scans. It is cruel but there is no way to predict or stop an mmc. Thanks

PresidentSpreadable · 31/07/2014 18:03

No, it took three weeks after my ERPC to get a negative.

Please try to stop catastrophising, you will probably be fine.

Fwiw, I had a scan at 7+4 due to extreme anxiety following previous mcs and an mmc and it reassured me for approximately 24hrs, then it all kicked back in again. I'm 21 weeks now Smile

Worrying is an essential parenting skill, may as well get used to it!
