Bio Oil

I have been using Bio Oil from about 3 months, now just past 7 months. Clearly the packaging says that it can be used during pregnancy and I know that many people do (a friend included). It is particularly important for me as I have a significant scar across my belly which was from a serious operation I had when I was a baby. To date, it looks like no scars are developing as the skin stretches around that major scar. Of course this is a good thing but then (via an Amazon review) I've heard it's contains vitamin A and therefore should not be used. I have gone onto their website and it confirms it's safe to use during pregnancy, www.bio-oil.com/en-us/product/formulation. In any case, I thought it was only Vitamin A from liver etc that was the issue? Thoughts/experiences appreciated! Many thanks

BioOil is essentially mineral oil with a tiny amount of other ingredients. It's been widely used by women who are PG, and is no more dangerous than any other moisturiser.

Cant help with the use of bio oil. However, I too have a scar on my tummy from surgery which has been opened/closed perhaps 11 times so was very indented pre pregnancy. It has now pretty much flattened itself out havign stretched early on in my pregnancy and was very sore. My MW said to keep slathering it in stretch mark cream//baby oil etc - basically anything that will add moisture. I have now got to 38+1 and in the last week or so have noticed some quite small stretch marks below my scar. Ive shown my DH and my DM and both say they can hardly see them but I can --albeit they seem to show up more in dimmer light.

Hopefully you will not get any stretch marks either but I felt gutted when I saw the small ones appear and have been lashing loads more cream on the area. In comparison though, they are tiny and weeny... Not bad when you think of how bad some people's are.

I know how you feel mrsnlw. I've always been very conscious of my scar (which is not helped every time I see a midwife saying 'ooo that's a big scar isn't it? Does it hurt?) but I am telling myself that the most important thing is that the baby is healthy as opposed to a few little stretch marks (non at the moment but I have some growing to do yet!). Thanks AuntieStella for your comforting words. I am a paranoid android at the moment!

Fleur... I once saw a picture that someone posted on facebook of a tummy with stretchmarks on it and it said "You body is not ruined, you are a tiger who has earned her stripes" I thought it was a lovely post.

Aloe vera gel or rosehip oil both much better for scars. Bio oil has all sorts of crap perfume etc in it

it works

I've been using bio-oil since early on (33+5). I've got loads of stretch marks; but it certainly helps with moisturising and making my skin less itchy. Plus I like the smell of it.

I would also take a close look at the other ingredients.. www.ewg.org/skindeep/products/918423-Bio_Oil_Skincare_Oil/

The use of the name 'bio' is very dubious as this is far from an organic product.

Rosehip oil is much better and has no questionable ingredients.
