Movements per day

My book says 10 movements between 9am and 9pm, although I have heard the consensus is 10 movements in 10 hours.

However, mine tend to be clustered, but over more than 12 hours (say when I wake around 6.30am and in the evening around 8pm, when I get lots).

Is this OK?

Mine tend to be first thing in the morning and last thing at night (unless I fall asleep before I notice.) I only started noticing significant movement during the day in week 34. I was really depressed hearing about all the wriggly babies on mumsnet when mine didn't move much. Yours sounds ok, but I would call the mw just to hear it from her(/him). How many wks are you?

If you don't feel movement at the usual time, call your hospital and they will probably ask you to go in so they can monitor the baby for half an hour just to confirm that everything's ok. (I've nearly done it a few times and then the wriggling starts.)

Mine moves a lot at night, after I eat and in the morning. BUT, my MW said if it doesn't tend to follow its usual patterns, sit down, have something to drink (and possibly eat) and rest for 10-15 mins. If that doesn't create a movement, then ring them.

But it does depend, at first, mine were quite sporadic - as DogMum asked, how many weeks are you?

I'm 26 weeks.

Baby does seem to have a set routine and that hasn't changed, although I'm getting used to it or it's slowing down, but like I said, still getting more than 10 kicks (and deffo got more than that in 10 hours today!).

Perhaps I should write them down when they happen so I can see it in writing, rather than relying on my pregnancy brain...

26 wks is about the time they tell you to start monitoring it - especially for a first baby. If you're busy, the baby could be moving and you probably wouldn't notice. Either that or you're rocking the baby to sleep (aah.) 26 wks sounds as though you might be due for a mw check soon? She should be able to set your mind at rest. Honestly, I think the amount of information we have is great and makes for much safer pregnancies, but sometimes it's quite general and can cause concern. The mw at my antenatal classes (at around 30wks) said 'you know your babies' routine for movements now - just call the hospital if you don't feel anything when you normally would.'

All the best.
