Hi,

30 week check today. Saw yet another different doctor who has ordered an ecg. I've had one before when I was ill and I know they're non invasive and painless and they reassured me that my hospital does them on all expectant mothers as procedure but is it the norm?

It didn't seem urgent as he said he didn't need the results until my next check in 4 weeks time which seems odd.

Did they tell you why you had to have an ecg?

I had to have one in my last pregnancy as my heart was doing some very odd things i.e. skipping beats, fluttering etc. I think it may have been to do with my iron levels so I found eating lots of green veg/salad and beef followed by a glass of orange juice to help to raise levels.

I have been experiencing the similar this time (am 23 weeks) so I've tried to up the iron and it seems to be working.

Hi,
I had an ECG due to heart palpitations, is this the case for you?

Had two on separate occasions as well as a 24hr monitor and an echo (the ultrasound one) was assured for all procedures that they were completely harmless to both me and baby as all they do is measure the electrical impulses.

Do you know why dr has referred you? I'm not sure they are routine, had to beg for mine as I was so worried about the palpitations! But they are definitely safe.

I hope this puts your mind at rest...

My results took ages but came back totally fine, they could see the palpitations but were thankfully just caused by pregnancy hormones :)

Good luck xxx

No symptoms whatsoever, they told me my bp is fine and my blood work was ok last time too.

I was anxious at this appointment though, so she took my bp a few times but said it was fine.

This was a new doctor today who id never seen before and he also said I should have had full blood work done every month. He's the 4th one I've seen and none of the others mentioned bloods every month.

He's also ordered a gtt despite no history and my weight and babies size apparently being ok.

I'm not in the UK and when I questioned it I just got told it was procedure. I have been in this hospital before and they do ecgs a lot. I'm worried about them not getting an accurate reading from me as I associate them with severe trauma (when I've had them before) so I can't understand why they'd just be routine. My dh thinks this doctor is being over cautious especially since he said he'd review the results in a month at my next appointment.so none of them are urgent. I have a month to make the appointments myself.

The nurse commented on swollen ankles, could that and my bp have raised a pe concern and if so should they not have told me?

Oh gosh, sorry I'm in the UK so could be very different over here... Sounds like they are very professional though.

It sounds good they are doing a full check of everything, better to be informed IMO.

Good luck with everything xx

I'm in the UK and had an ECG and a GTT.
I should imagine you either ticked a family history of something (my grandad had heart problems) or it is just a precaution.
Either way I am sure it is absolutely nothing to worry about. :) xxx
