34 weeks and in agony Sad
Feel like I've been run over, hips and pelvis feel like they've been smashed.
Really struggling to stand up, walk, climb stairs, lay down, turn over, sit down etc.

Midwife app next week but really not coping. Do I just wait until then or go to the gp?
Is it just one of those things and I need to get on with it? Just scared it's going to get worse for 6 weeks.

Can you self refer to the maternity physio?

If not, or even if you can, I'd also see the gp to get advice about painkillers.

I was in a lot of pain and went to the maternity physio. The first time I went I was just given exercises to do but the second time she did some kind of manipulation to realign my pelvis. It was like a miracle! Went from being in agony with every movement, every day, to a bit of pain in the evening once a week or so when I've overdone it.

Don't be in pain!!

Sounds like you have SPD if you go see your midwife that will refer you to the physio for it. It won't get much better to be honest mines didn't disappear until 6 weeks after birth your midwife can diagnose SPD straight away it's quiet coon in pregnancy but very uncomfortable

I had a bad day Monday which I thought was the start of problems although it does seem to have settled back to the odd twinge. I'm only 23 weeks but have prior history of back problems. Rang the MW as I didn't want to leave it and risk it getting worse and have to wait for appt and she's referring me for a group physio session to teach me some exercises. Could have had acupuncture instead. AFAIK if the exercises don't work then you can self-refer back for appointment. Ring midwife and explain situation today - she'll tell you whether you need to see GP or not. Also might be worth seeing if there's a chiropractor / osteopath near by who will treat you. Might be pricey but in my non pregnant experience, a session of manipulation can relieve things considerably and you can usually get in a lot quicker than NhS physio. Also consider a support belt. There were some tips on the November antenatal club thread 7 in the last week or so. Good luck.

If you see a physio / osteopath you really want to make sure its one who does manual manipulation to help straighten you out and keep you aligned.

The Pelvic Partnership is a good website with local recommendations.

Quite a few physios really aren't skilled / knowledgable enough of the specific SPD issues to make much of a difference.
