any one got any ideas on buying maternity bras. its got to be online as I'm not in the uk. Info about what you've found comfortable and reasonably priced that kind of thing. Its been along time since I was last doing this 'pregnancy thing' and my brain seems to have turned to mush.

Thank you

If you are ahem at all on the D-cup plus size then go for Bravissimo, www.bravissimo.com. Not sure if they do deliveries outside UK though.
Make sure you try several sizes ? if you can't have a fitting in person it's likely to be tricky.
Good luck!

I wore a M&S non-maternity non-wired bra for both my pregnancies, on the advice of the fitters - it was one of the real over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder jobs and very, very comfortable. I was an E cup and I think they go up further.

I wore those 'only the ball should bounce' sports bras, also on the fitter's advice, and they were fine, very comfortable.

I've read that you shouldn't wear underwired bras when you are pg. Is that right? Does anyone know why?

SenoraPostrophe · 01/04/2004 16:41

Yes - I had an M&S matronly jobby when preg and am wearing M&S feeding bras now. I presume you can order them online.

bundle · 01/04/2004 16:42

piglit I think they can cause unnecessary pressure and help give you mastitis or worse, by blocking your ducts.

beansprout · 01/04/2004 16:45

Are underwired bras out right from the start or does this come in later on?

piglit · 01/04/2004 16:48

I had thought it was when you breast feed but I read recently (can't remember where - sorry) that they can restrict the development of various glands or something during pg. I have to confess that I'm still wearing my underwired bras (13 weeks) but I should probably think about giving them up.

bundle · 01/04/2004 16:49

personally i don't find them comfy ever. i have worn them & taken teh wires out, sort of defeats the object really..

beansprout · 01/04/2004 16:52

Am the same Piglit. Left to my own devices, I am not very big in that dept, so had made some assumption in my bean head that my bras weren't underwired - but, godammit, they are! I just made it up!

Off to M&S I think.

I was on the D cup plus side and wore Royce soft cup bras. These are available on the bravissimo site and at the end i was in a 38G so I'm sure they will have what ever size you need. Reasonably priced and available in black and white.

I have recently bought maternity bras in bravissimo. we had this same discussion about with or without wires. As an 34E cup and growing I was VERY reluctant to give up my underwires. The reason against in pregnancy is, as someone has already mentioned, to prevent blockage of milk ducts in the developing breasts. Should this happen (and apparently it has) it would cause mastitis. However, you can rationalise it thus: whoever this happened to was not wearing a properly fitting bra. The wires should be sitting on your ribcage, not anywhere near your breast tissue.
With the help of the very good assistant in bravissimo, I wore underwires right up until the last month of my pregnancy (i.e.now) i have finally given in to a soft cup because it's probably the most appropriate for me at this stage. I feel HUGE and not as well supported. I will be back to underwires as soon as is possibly practical.
In the end it's up to you whether you follow advice, which is, that you shouldn't wear wires during pregnancy. Or you you make an informed choice and wear them sensibly.
Hope this helps

Thanks Mrs D. That's very helpful - I'll stick with the underwired bras I've got and when they're too small I'll get fitted properly for some new ones.

thanks guys off to trawl M&S site and Bravissmo.
