I'm 22 weeks with first child
Only started feeling movement in the past week, last night was the strongest with some unmistakeable kicks. However nothing today.. When should I start monitoring movement and becoming worried about a lack of it ?

Well I'm 23+3 and am also a FTM. I actually phoned my MW today as had really reduced movement since Monday. She was great - I went straight to the clinic, she checked for the heart beat (which we could hear straight away) and we could also hear it swiping at the doppler Smile.

Must admit, I did feel like I'd wasted her time but as she said, she'd much rather I did call and it be a false alarm. Didn't feel so bad about it then. Also, don't know about you but I have a high anterior placenta so feel less than you read others may feel around this many weeks.

If in doubt, phone your MW and good luck!

It can be confusing online, but official guidance (I'm high risk so had to pay attention closely) is you should have started feeling some movement by 24 weeks. Movement will vary a lot up until about 26-28 weeks. Once you have a regular pattern you can monitor.
So at this stage, what you are feeling sounds normal?
However if you have concerns ALWAYS ring your midwife helpline, even if they just reassure you it will give far more peace of mind and prevent googling!

Basically up until 24 weeks, the size of the baby means it can still move a lot and not be felt unless it is in the right place, regardless of placenta position.

This website is very useful and has the most up to date medical advice: countthekicks.org.uk/mums/your-babys-movements/

And this page is great, what movement to expect week by week: countthekicks.org.uk/mums/your-babys-movements/babys-movements-week-by-week/

...and I would definitely call if like Havent you felt reduced movement for a long time (like more than just a few hours) even at 22 weeks. A phonecall will reassure you at best and if they are concerned they'll see you. :)

Any reduced movement go and see your midwife - it's probably nothing but it's best to be sure and your MW won't think you're wasting his/her time Smile

When I was pregnant and hadn't felt any movement for a while I'd drink a glass of orange juice. That helped to get my daughter moving. You could always try that for peace of mind. The sugar gets the baby moving.
