Spd? And could it go away?

I'm 24 weeks pregnant. On Monday I went for a long walk with the buggy, in parts of which we had to rush. The next day I had some soreness on the inside of my leg right at the top at the join. I think this may be a sign of spd, is that where you feel it. But I was also wondering if it might just clear up like after you've done a new gym class/weight. Or am I stuck with it? I didn't have this last pregnancy.

Not sure but I felt the same (left leg) around 27 wks and was worried it would escalate. It was especially bad one day when I was doing a yoga DVD at home. Then it seemed to go. I think the amount of walking I was doing helped (to and from work, about 8km a day). I've felt it return a bit the last few days, I'm now 36wks and on mat leave so slowed down a bit which I think is why. So for me I think keeping active has helped.

SPD for me is at the time of walking rather than afterwards, it's like a stitch feeling and makes it almost impossible to walk. It comes on straight away it doesn't have to be a long walk.

regular pelvic floor exercises and ante-natal yoga are what have helped me

I had spd in my last pregnancy, it was a very sharp painful feeling (it feels like your bones grinding against one another when you move) (when turning in bed, getting in and out of the car, sitting at work), I got physio and a support belt and it helped but it didn't go away until after my baby was born. It lasted about 26 weeks of my pregnancy. I felt it in and around the pubic bone area. Mention it at your next antenatal appointment and they can assess if it is spd, then they can get you seen to get physio and get fitted for a support belt if you need it.

I had spd during my pregnancy and the mistake I made was to carry on regardless - so I would rest until the pain wore off and then get back to walking everywhere/lifting heavy objects/etc. I really regret not seeking help earlier and doing the exercises and other self-help stuff.

For some women it does go away or get a lot better during their pregnancy, particularly if they get the right treatment. I found the severity of mine depended on what position my baby was in.

Your joints are more mobile, which can create discomfort - without a gap large enough for SPD. Do mention it at your next appointment and here's hoping it was a one of strain from the looser joint.

I slipped at about 20 weeks and had similar pain but went to see an osteopath who was amazing. I now have very little pain and am more mobile towards the end of my pregnancy than I was in the middle. Totally recommend seeing one if you can.

Thanks all. I think I'll wait a couple of days and if it stays I'll give the midwife a ring.
