Baby due soon, do we wash everything?

We have been given a lot of second hand clothes, and also some brand new clothes, and have brand new muslins, towels, sheets etc.

Do we need to wash everything prior to baby's arrival? And using non bio?

Or can some new stuff just be used straight away?

Some people do and some do not. I never bothered but always use non bio for all baby washing.

For the second hand stuff I gave it a sniff. If it smelled of fabric softener I normally didn't bother and just assumed it had been washed before passing along.

For this one I'll probably wash all DD's stuff that's been in storage just because it will smell all musty.

All in non-bio.

I've been washing everything as I find some new things a bit chemical smelly and also they've been in warehouses and shops etc, but I do that with my stuff too. I also find it softens things up and I wanted that for baby especially. The muslins especially came out a lot softer. I used non bio and Fairy gentle/sensitive fabric softener. I've decided any of the softeners that are white and have a baby on the label will do though :) the crib bedding from Mothercare smelt especially weird, like vinegar until I washed it!

I do yes, and DS has eczema so I still do.

I never wash new clothes, but I've been religiously washing everything for my first due in a few weeks... New, secondhand, socks, muslins, everything. Nice to see it all drying on the line

I did for dd1.
That all went by the by with dd2.

Ideally though, I would wash both new and 2nd hand in non bio.

I defiantly would I used fairy non bio on all my sons clothes and will be doing it again this time xx

I work in a baby shop and spend half my time at work picking up clothes that have been knocked onto the floor, so I would wash all the new clothes. But not until baby is here so if baby is bigger than expected you can swop sizes.
As long as you have something for baby to wear for the first couple of days eg white sleep suits you should be okay.
