I am due tommorrow, hoping to go into active labour naturally but am concerned as been in latent labour for almost a week now.Trouble is there is some mix up over my dates. I know I am due tommorrow, regular periods, implantation spotting, testing dates & fact DP works away so can onnly be at certain times! Consultant is refusing these dates even though scan now agrees as did early one but the one at 20 weeks differed so thats when they moved my dates.Using these I couldnt have even been pregnant when I tested positive!
What a long waffle! Anyhow, I am worried about health of placenta after tommorrow which I make 40 wks but consultant only say 37+3.All the MW i have talked to say I am right, as did registrar .Is there anything I can do to insist they monitor placenta & babikes health?
(DOes any of the above make sense!!)

I wouldn't worry until 2 weeks time - I was 2 weeks late for both of mine and babies were fine!

Duh? How can they say that the 20w scan is more accurate than the early scan at dating the pg? That's impossible.

Anyway, don't worry too much - the placenta doesn't start deteriorating at 40+1. It's just that the risk begins to rise after 40w. After all, 42w is still considered term. I had dd at 41w exactly, she was fine and the placenta was fine too (they checked it visually). They had said that they wouldn't start monitoring me until I hit 41w, as it wasn't necessary.

There was a lot of disagreement over my dates when my mum was pg with me - my dad also worked abroad so my mum was precisely sure when she had 'caught' and her preiods were regular as clockwork, yet the medical establishment insisted that her estimation was wrong. In the end I was born at least 2w late (according to mum's dates) and I was fine.

The fact that you are in latent labour also suggests that you will go into proper labour soon.

If you do go over they normally won't bring you in for any checks until 41 weeks anyway, so try not to worry for another week at least. Even then, you'd be unlikely to have any problems until 42 weeks or more -- and as you've been in latent labour for so long it's unlikely you'll go that long.

I hope someone with more experience will be along soon. If you get one of the experienced midwives on here they will probably be able to suggest something.

In the absence of that and based purely on what I would do, when you get to 41 weeks by your calculations I would write a letter to your consultant. Don't get emotional in it -- set out all the information (and include the fact that for your consultant's dates to be correct you would have had to have tested positive before you conceived. Then state that you have mentioned all of this information in consultations but consultant has refused to give you an earlier due date than X, that you are extremely concerned that you are now one week overdue but are not being properly monitored and wanted to place this on record in writing. Then send the letter recorded delivery, and add a copy to your pregnancy notes. My guess would be that this might set some alarm bells ringing re possible liability issues if something were to go wrong.
