Moses basket, crib or something else??

Just seen a cheapo 2nd hand moses basket. Are they necessary? Baby will need to sleep in something. Cribs look very stationary. Are moses baskets the best option for "portable" (round the house) sleeping?

Clueless first time mum!

Hated the Moses basket.

Used an nct bednest - easy to move around the house too.

My DD hated being in a moses basket. I ended up having her in a sling until I went to bed and then she was in cot with one side removed so that it was flush with the bed, co-sleeping with a bit more room!

Bednest looks ace. Pricey though

I got a moses basket with ds but he was too long for it by 9weeks old. It was a bit of a waste of money.

I've opted for a swinging crib this time because I think we'll get more use out of it, hopefully to nearer 6 months.

I got a basket and rocking stand for £10 second hand. Originally john lewis. It's for downstairs and if not used then not a massive waste if money.

I had a moses basket for dd and it was marvellous. Lasted her til five months.

this time round ive got a crib for the bedroom and will use the pram carrycot in the living room for the daytimw.

I was annoyed that my MIL bought us a new moses basket without asking us as they seemed like a waste of money and I didn't plan to have one. But we actually got quite a lot of use out of it.

I planned to co-sleep baby in the bed with us but from 6 weeks she slept so well and so long I just would pop her in the moses basket next to the bed instead and I slept better that way. She wasn't a big baby so used it till around 5-6 months.

catface you can rent a bednest for 6 months, I think it's about £100 (includes a new matters obvs).

I used on me, in bed next to me, doomoo and bed nest. No Moses.

Stokke Mini/SLEEPI cot - the mini is bigger than a moses basket, can be rocked and wheeled between rooms (stuck in small flat so love multifunctional furniture) and then converts to larger cot, toddler bed etc when needed.
Initially expensive but has been a great investment www.stokke.com/en-gb/nursery/stokke-sleepi/2222.html and we've always been able to change things overnight if we need to or alter it to accommodate visiting kids at different ages.

Just set ours up again (folded flat and stored in the broom cupboard for a few years) for DC 2 and its in perfect condition, got new mattress cut to size by local company and sewed a cute fresh drape for it. Also likely to resell when we are done with small people judging from ebay, and there are often second hand ones there if its beyond budget
