Stupid question. I'm going to be offered a sweep tomorrow and was planning to meet a friend after my appointment. Don't really want to go into labour over tea and cake lol.
If a sweep works are results that quick?

No result for me had a sweep at 40+2 and ds was born 41+1 u should be fine to go for a cake after!

I started getting labour pains half an hour after my sweep. I was getting very, very mild cramping the day before though.

Marnierose · 16/07/2014 16:41

No

freakedmum · 16/07/2014 16:43

Ok, thanks everyone. Hoping it will work, just not that quickly lol

I had mine at 39+5 at 3pm. No cramping then my waters broke at bang on midnight that night.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 16/07/2014 16:49

No, not that fast. I don't really know if mine worked, because I was having patchy contractions anyway, but it was about 12 hours later labour kicked off.

You might feel sore and a bit crampy though.

MissHC · 16/07/2014 16:56

My first sweep at 40w did nothing at all. 2nd sweep (40+5) did work - contractions started that evening and DD was born the next morning.

GingerRodgers · 16/07/2014 17:06

It didn't work instantly in that dd wasn't born until 2 days later but it did start contractions off straight away. I wouldn't have been comfortable going out after.

As I recall, a sweep only "works" if you are about to go into labour anyway.

Misspilly88 · 16/07/2014 17:16

i had mine on monday and still nothing! Got excited cos i had a show and cramps and it all felt like it was about to kick off, but died down again. Hope you enjoyed your cake :)

Mine did although id already started having contractions. They became much much worse in the lifton the way out of the hospital

freakedmum · 16/07/2014 17:27

Lol, sillylass79, i did have visions that could happen, but its probably not very likely that soon unless the midwife says I'm already in labour or about to be from what you've all said.
At least I'm meeting a female friend who's all excited about the birth anyway, so i guess I'd be alright for assistance if anything happened! x
