Skin coloured maternity bras in a big size

Hi,

This is my first post on here so hope it is in the right place. I'm 14weeks pregnant with twins and went to mothercare to get measured. I've always been a big boobed girl and normally shop at bravissimo. I measured 40e and have been looking for nude/skin coloured bras and I have looked at loads of places and can only found black, white and multi coloured. I find nude bras so useful so can anyone give me suggestions to get some?

Thanks in advance

Try Debenhams, they had loads of maternity bras in nude in my local one. Not sure on sizes though.

Thank you will look on the site x

Figleaves. Look up Anita (underwired nude nursing bra) very comfortable. I don't think my local mothercare measure well at it, I'm better doing it myself.

RoganJosh · 15/07/2014 14:36

Does it need to be a maternity bra? So long as the wire isn't digging in to breast tissue then wired is fine, despite what fitters will tell you about the metal 'turning the milk' or other ridiculousness.

If you want a nursing bra, then I second Anita on figleaves. I also like their underwired nursing bras. I'm not sure why you'd get a nursing bra now though as your back and cup measurement will probably change.

RoganJosh · 15/07/2014 14:37

Actually, what makes a maternity bra a maternity bra? Why don't you just look for non wired if that's what you want?

magichandles · 15/07/2014 14:41

Try Bravado - I'm a 32 F normally and find them pretty supportive, plus I should only have to buy one "set" for this pregnancy.

This is a great shop www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk

And I highly recommend the Anita underwire nursing bra in flesh colour. If you have large breasts then the underwire really helps. I only wore non-underwire for the first week or so my milk was coming in.

John Lewis has some and there are certainly some
that aren't as expensive as you'd imagine. I got one in 32G for £7 (although normally £14). With changing boobs size I found it good not to have to spend a fortune. My usual pre-pregnancy size of 30F usually means specialist (therefore expensive) to get any decent support but I've been pleasantly surprised.

I would totally ignore the mothercare fitters recommended size.... start with what size you are normally and work up from there. I find that I need to go up a back size early in pregnancy (or use a bra extender then go up a cup or 2 towards the end. Make sure you buy nursing bras- not maternity bras as you will be able to use them afterwards too as your size returns to normal after breastfeeeding
Second the Anita and Bravado brand recommendations- bravado do some great sleep feeding vests and soft/ sleep bras which are great for pregnancy and the early days after the birth and beyond when getting up and down for night feeds whether breastfeeding or not

What size do Bravissimo fit you into? Ignore mothercare if its more than a size or 2 out.

figleaves have a number of nude bras - and also some ivory, which is my alternative.

HappyAsASandboy · 15/07/2014 20:02

Bravissimo have soft cup bras and nursing bras. If you're usually happy with their sizing and service, I'd go back there.

40E isn't really big-boobed though, so I'd wonder about their measuring if it is very different to your normal bravissimo-measured size. A 40E is a big band measurement, but the cups wouldn't be that big - I think they'd be the same cup volume as my 32G, and I really am not big-boobed.

I'd go back to Bravissimo if I were you, and keep your underwires if you want to. As long as the wires don't press on the breast tissue they are fine to wear during pregnancy and feeding :)

Hi
Thanks for your replies. I was a 34f in bravissimo but after 3 ivf cycles I have gained a little bit of weight. I might pop into town and get measured in various shops and go from there. We have a bravissimo where I live. Do you not have to wear non wired bras when pregnant my friend who is also pregnant told me you should but I feel very un supported in non wired bras? To be honest through out the ivf cycles I just bought bras in various sizes from asda as they were constantly changing so it has been a while since I was measured other than in mother care.

Thanks for everyone's replies Smile

Debenhams are great for bigger sizes, if not maternity try their plain old soft cup (granny) type ones.

addictedtosugar · 17/07/2014 11:09

You are very, very very unlikly to be a 40 back!
Have you got a tape measure at home? Measure underneath your breasts with the tape measure - the number on the tape measure in inches is the back measurment you need.

Underwired is fine IF THEY FIT PROPERLY.

happy shopping

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 17/07/2014 11:37

I've got a nude coloured maternity bra from M&S. I'm not sure what sizes they go up to but it's worth a look.

Eastwiththem · 17/07/2014 17:36

I'm currently wearing a nude underwired bra from Bravissimo. I told the girl fitting it I was pregnant (although given I had no top on she must have guessed from the size of my tummy!) and she said it was fine to wear wires up until birth or until the milk is obvious - but I think underwire would be really uncomfy in that situation so you would know it was bad. My boobs are pretty stable at the moment and the wire is flat against the skin so I don't feel like they are doing any damage.
