I was suffering quite badly with SPD, the school run was unbearable & it was making simple tasks impossible!

I was sent to physiotherapy at the hospital which was nothing I expected, we were told it will get worse as you get bigger, there's not much you can do and support belts take months on the NHS!

I took up doing ante-natal yoga two nights a week just on DVD and It's gone! No more SPD whatsoever. They focus a lot on strengthening the pelvic floor muscles as well as other muscles which help with labour. So I just thought I'd tell anyone who is suffering it may be worth a try! It also makes me sleep a lot better!

Things like this are always worth a try but I would really advice people to get advice from a physio or other hcp first as if spd is severe it can make things worse and there are certain movements that shouldn't be attempted

My physio told me ante-natal yoga is absolutely fine as the positions are designed for pregnant women, but yes ofcourse physio first!

I've been using the yoga dvd in this set amazon link

It comes with ante natal pilates, exercise and a post natal one too. However I've only used the yoga

Argh, the "you're pregnant, put up with it" idea a lot of HCPs have about SPD is beyond awful. SPD can be managed well with the right supports and exercise guided by a physio who specialises in women's health. Great that you found something that works.

I'm sorry for your experience, but glad that its had a good outcome.

When I was pregnant with my son I had SPD. I wrote a note to my doctor asking to be referred to a physio (I work in a healthcare related field that is linked to my doctors surgery, so he is usually happy to do things like this without me wasting an appointment slot), got a referral appointment letter two days later and had the appointment the next day. The physio gave my loads of exercises to do and also fitted me for a belt that I could take home straight away (my job involves being on my feet all day, so I could not have coped without the belt).

I guess some areas are better than others with these things

Thank you so much for ur advice. My 4th pregnancy was terrible with SPD, my pelvis cracked n clonked, was housebound for the last 6wks, DP had to leave work it was that bad. I've never fully recovered, I'm pregnant wiv bubby no.5 now, only 9+2wks n already my pelvis has started cracking, I'm literally dreading the coming months. :(
