I've got very painful trapped wind which started yesterday afternoon. Anyone got any tips for sending it on it's way?! Tried plain boiled water which isn't really helping. It's making me very breathless Hmm

Deflatine is safe to take in pregnancy, it can help. Also you get to do epic burps Grin the likes of which you may never have done before!

YY to deflatine!! Lifesaver when I was pg. Couple of them & a warm bath... parp central Grin

I just used to curl up in bed hugging my knees (and possibly whimpering). Deflatine sounds much better! Grin

Also, later on I had a large bump that seemed to start right under my boobs (10lb baby) and I felt quite breathless & uncomfortable, I found being on all fours resting my elbows on my birth ball really comfortable, did it most nights & It's also great for getting baby in position etc.

Ugh, trapped wind is so uncomfortable.

Rennies always help me burp when I'm in pain like that.

Bangonthedoor · 13/07/2014 20:29

Ah thanks all! Will definitely get some deflatine tomorrow. Rennies have usually worked in the past for me but not this time.

I'm a natural huge burper anyway Blush it's my filthy habit! DP hates it so I'm sure he'll love me even more after this deflatine Wink

I are a large dominoes to myself a few weeks ago and gave myself massive trapped wind all I did for ages is curl up on all 4's and cry! Genuinely thought I was in labour or something!
After much googling I found what worked best was to simply lay down but prop yourself up and just massage your belly in large oval swishes, then stand up every few minutes, you'll be farting and burping so much haha!

Good luck!

Bangonthedoor · 14/07/2014 07:03

Thanks misscocopops i'll try that too! It's crazy how uncomfortable it is isn't it. Anyone know why we actually get trapped wind??

No worries :) I think we get it for 2 main reasons.

  1. Our digestive system slows right down so baby and body has more time to take all the nutrients out of food. Therefore food sits in the digestive track for longer releasing more gas.
  2. Once that gas has been realised there isn't much room in there and everything is all squished now anyway, so it gets trapped and just needs a little help along.
I use that anyway to blame if I accidentally let rip lol! 'Sorry, baby moved' haha x

I had awful trapped wind and I didn't realise that was what it was, it was so painful! A cup of cool boiled water and it went instantly

HappyAsASandboy · 14/07/2014 14:10

Peppermint tea. Seriously.

I was crying and begging for more pain relief after my CS and the midwife said I couldn't have any more so to try a peppermint tea. I nearly killed her! I drank the tea though, and 10 mins later I felt fine :)

Ever since, at the slightest hint of trapped wind pain I reach for the peppermint tea. It always works :)
