Newborn clothes list

Hiya, first time mum to be here with a little girl due in late September. I don't want little miss to go without, but I don't want to go overboard when it comes to clothes. I have been buying a selection of newborn and 0-3 months clothes, with clothes being, footy grows, long sleeves grows, short sleeves grows, a few mittens and booties, and that's about it.

I was just wondering how many items of each size is about right? I plan to keep her in grows most of the time, and if she needs a pretty outfit I'll get her one that fits there and then.

Do I need top and bottoms sets? Socks? Do I need bibs? (I have 12 large muslins).
I have been advised to buy some 'tiny baby' items but again how much of what?

And finally! How many nappies in what size do I stock pile?

If it helps I had a scan today (30 weeks) and she's bang on average wih measurements etc.

Thanks very much in advanced for any help advice :)

Xx

Long sleeve vests are pointless.

If you going to get a car seat get one of the cosy toes that goes in it and just use cardi over baby grow and light blanket as better to have layers you can remove and baby be strapped in on top of clothing rather than anything quilted.

See, I've always used long sleeve vests under short sleeve/sleeveless things so can be worn all seasons.

I found the 'up to one month 'stuff really useful for my 7 pounder. 0-3 was way too big until they were over a month

I am on number 2 and have brought 2 tiny baby vests n a tiny baby baby grow in sale and then some new born bits in sale including outfits I use outfits in day n sleepsuits at night- personal preference.

Started stocking up on nappies whilst on full wage did same last time.

New born in next n m&s is smaller than other places they do an up to 1mth that is same as other newborn

I agree with a lot of the comments here that for an average 7-8 pounder the newborn size quickly becomes too short. I've never used them more than a couple of weeks. Also only ever needed one pack of smallest size nappies.
Socks are useless, just get babygrows with feet and the fold over mitten sleeves. I pretty much felt that fancy outfits were a waste of time until 6 months or so. Babygrows are easy, comfortable and cheap.

As someone else says shops stay open when they arrive too.

Bought lots of 0-3 month things then dd turned up two weeks early and only a smudge over 6lbs. DH was sent the mothercare for tiny baby which she stayed in for a month.

Shops do vary massively though. IME with her, Mamas and Papas are pretty small, JL is pretty accurate and Next and M&S run large.
