Anyone finding allergies/health problem improving with pregnancy?

This one surprised me, but I have a dairy intolerance, and in the last couple of weeks I've discovered I can now drink more milk than I normally would and not spend all evening on the loo as a result!

This makes me very happy as I can also have more cheese!

I've heard of it happening before, as my Mum's best friend came out of her third pregnancy ten years ago and left her Raynaud's Disease behind - something she was told couldn't be cured, only maintained!

Has anyone else found things like this, or on the flip-side, have your allergies been increased at all? I'm just nosey and interested really!

Not personally but a friend of mine found her wheat intolerance vanished during pregnancy. So she ate lots of bread and cakes! Sadly it returned after pregnancy and now it emerges that her ds has it too.

My verruca of 7years has nearly gone.

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 09/07/2014 20:25

I couldn't give blood before ds. Nurses etc would have a massive battle to get what they needed and the one time I tried to donate was pitiful.

Once pg - out it flowed like a tap!

Wonder if it still does, I'd like to donate.

my lactose intolerance has definitely gone down if not disappeared. i would never dream of drinking glasses of milk pre pregnancy for fear of how i might react and now i have one daily!! very strange!

RawCoconutMacaroon · 09/07/2014 20:30

Your whole immune system gets dampened down during pregnancy - to reduce the chance of your immune system attacking the baby. So that could reduce allergies.

trying - I know what you mean! I'm hooked on milkshake at the moment! My OH even bought Nesquik for me! Well, I think it's more for him and DSD but he's dressed it up as a treat for me because I BLOODY WELL CAN NOW! Smile

I'm normally severely lactose intolerant (looks at dairy and needs the loo bad) and I've found I can eat cheese, yogurt and tolerate a small amount of milk.

But at the same time my hay fever has gotten worse!!!!

PickleMyster · 09/07/2014 20:49

DS was born late April, just in time for the hay fever season to kick in for me, didn't suffer with it that year. My then boss said the same thing happened to a friend of hers too - guess it's to do with the hormones.

PickleMyster · 09/07/2014 20:51

My hay fever came back with a vengeance the following year Angry

lovepigeon · 09/07/2014 20:53

I normally have dry eyes as sleep with eyes slightly open but both pregnancies problem went away till about 3 months post partum. Also had massive mosaic verruca problem - cluster of about 15 of them which had been there for 8 years then disappeared during second pregnancy. Was so happy as felt like I would never be free of them.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 09/07/2014 20:59

Oh I loved being pregnant for this reason. My cat allergy has disappeared and not come back 10 years later. Hay fever all but gone. Dry hair was lush and full bodied. Greasy skin turned all glowing. Etc etc.

spence24 · 09/07/2014 21:13

Hearts Jealous about the glowing skin - I'm only 10 weeks so hoping that will come later, right now I feel like I'm 14 again with all these spots!!!

Yes, I've had no hay fever at all during this pregnancy, and none of my usual allergies - cats, dogs etc. I've even managed a small amount of egg, which I usually can't tolerate at all. And I didn't get any winter colds or sniffles either.

justhayley · 09/07/2014 21:36

With DS1 my hayfever vanished during pregnancy & the following year when I was still breast feeding.
I'm 37+6 with number two & iv had the opposite this time my allergies are 100 times worse than usual Confused this one is a girl - have no idea if that's made a difference.

butterfly86 · 09/07/2014 21:36

My horrendous hayfever disappeared while i was pregnant dd is 19 days old and its making slight comeback Angry

pancakesfortea · 09/07/2014 21:41

Yes I have a form of inflammatory arthritis which goes away in pregnancy. Apparently (according to my consultant) observing that phenomenon led scientists to develop steroid treatments. I now take immune suppresants, so what someone said about pregnancy suppressing your immune system would also make sense.

CathyNoodles · 09/07/2014 22:28

My psoriasis has practically disappeared, as it did with my first pregnancy. I am making the most of it, as I know it will come back within weeks afterwards!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 09/07/2014 22:32

Our bodies are amazing things aren't they.

ohthegoats · 09/07/2014 22:39

No wheat allergy, no wheat allergy related eczema all down my legs and arms, no hayfever... effing amazing. It's all come back a tiny, tiny bit in the last week or so, but I've still got a list of stuff in the bread aisle that I'll be shoving in over the next two months. Mostly brioche.

moggle · 09/07/2014 22:40

My spots have gone - my skin is much drier than the grease-fest it usually is. As well as the spots going, I have gone from having to wash my hair every other day to once a week, it's mad!! Get so much more time in bed!
On the slight down side I have had to buy a bunch of new skincare stuff as I got eczema on my eyelids and neck a few times before I realised what was going on...

icklekid · 10/07/2014 04:44

Normally awful ibs from dairy, much less so as seems to be common with others. Interesting to see if will last post pregnancy!

SassehMonsta · 10/07/2014 08:56

My lungs work! I have a lung disease and first trimester my lungs were amazing! They are heading back down the not so great route as more stress is put on them, but no infections, no yellow gunk, and only half as much sputum :D Super glad!

PeppermintInfusion · 10/07/2014 09:57

My intolerances/IBS seem to be worse unfortunately Sad

JustGrrrrrreat · 10/07/2014 10:01

My milk intolerance dissapeared too. Unfortunately after pregnancy i developed an intolerance to red wine. Quite frankly i prefered the milk intolerance

rockstars12 · 10/07/2014 10:05

My asthma has got better. I no longer need inhalers. Yes I get out of breath, but not tight chested, no infections. I can laugh hard without coughing and needing inhaler.
