whooping cough- did you have to book it yourself? how did you react to it?

Just had my whooping cough jab after SIL (nurse practitioner who specialises in jabs) recommended I get it booked/done between 28-32 wks as that's when it gives baby best protection. I'm 31 wks now and nothing was ever mentioned in any MW appointments apart from it being recommended at booking in, so I just got it done at health centre/practice nurse. 1 hour later my arm is feeling quite heavy and achy. Hoping it doesn't get much worse!

No one mentioned me getting mine so Ive booked myself in for next week at 34 weeks to get mine done.

My mw said I needed to book it in with the nurse, just a heavy achy arm and struggled to sleep on that side for a few days!

Rang my GP. Its next week, they told me my arm might ache! EEep!

I asked midwife about it at 29 weeks she said get it done at gps by 33 weeks so had it at 31 they dnt do it apparently, I was fine had a tad temp and arm was sore but nothing horrendous

The midwife told me at booking in that I would need it after 28 weeks and to make an appointment with the practice nurse. I did have a sore arm (only.when touched/slept on) for a few days.

I booked it about 34 weeks, and I had no reaction. Possibly a slightly achy arm, but I don't remember anything.

I had it done at 37 weeks. Zero side effects, not even slightly tender when touched. Was very pleased!

Booked it at 34 weeks. Arm ached quite a bit but nothing worse than that.

At 22w appt MW told me to book it for between 28 & 32w. Same as others, very dead arm with a red swollen patch that lasted a few days. The actual jag didn't hurt at all though.

I booked it with my GP after I got a letter to my house telling me that they advise pregnant women to get it. Jab does not hurt when being done but for 4-5 days after I had a very sore arm, bit swollen and red and could not lie on it at all.

Book in with your practice nurse at GP surgery. Your midwife should advise you to do this, but don't wait for them if they've forgotten. Ideally it should be given between 28-32 weeks, but can be given after that - it's just that your baby gets maximum benefits if you have it between these weeks. This is because it takes a couple of weeks for your body to make your antibodies peak and then baby slowly gets them from your blood over the weeks after this - but apparently they cross over to baby best after 30 weeks.
I had mine yesterday and apart from a slight ache in arm where it was given, am absolutely fine. It's no different to any other travel injection or booster you might have. Very safe and protects your baby from whopping cough until they have their own jabs. Whooping cough is a big risk at the moment.

I had to book it in with the practice nurse but was reminded by midwives to do so! Had it yesterday at 28+4 and arm still aches a little but no other reaction

Hmm no one has mentioned this to me at all... Better phone the docs tomorrow, 32 weeks so better be speedy about it lol!

Was advised by MW, booked it myself. No effect at all.

Had mine a couple of days ago at 35wks and only slight side effect was a slightly sore arm!

Arm ached for a couple of days. It was the jab dd1 had had the summer before, she didn't mention anything post hers, more stoic than her mum obviously!

happy to report no serious reaction (so far! fingers crossed!) just feels like someone has punched my arm really hard! Thanks for all your comments x
